Is Barrett the coach to get us a Premiership?

A lot of people in this thread mentioned that they would wait to judge Barrett until this year when he had time to build his own squad. Does anyone still believe he can take us to a premiership?
Anyone who can’t see that Barrett is a dud by now needs to go to Specsavers quick smart. I was saying throughout most of last year that we should give him the benefit of doubt, etc etc even though we had not seen any evidence of his coaching abilities whatsoever. Sadly, we are yet to see any evidence of this,, which only points fairly and squarely to the fact that he can’t coach!! We have seen NOTHING in our games suggesting no any level of even moderate coaching tutelage since Barrett has joined us. Every week we play with him as coach is digging a deeper hole for us - the sooner the powers that be realise this and do something about it, the sooner we can move forward positively as a team and club

I have no doubt he is a good coach. I think he needs to start making some tough calls.

Mate I couldn’t say it better myself. We need to find another coach. His coaching methods are amateur at best.

No - i feel Barrett is just the last coach in our rebuilding phase. We will eventually move on and the next coach will be the one to have success with what's been built.

Geez I hope you’re right, this is getting pretty frustrating for all Bulldogs fans. We need a coach with passion. Baz doesn’t seemed to fazed when we lose.

We can complain all we want about Barrett but the clubs not going to sack him. We’ve already sacked Des Hasler & Dean Pay, it would be a PR nightmare and bad publicity all around if we sacked Barrett too.

Barrett clearly isn’t the guy to take the Bulldogs forward considering the club has put mentors in place for him in Phil Gould and Hansen and basically given him his pick at a brand new team and it’s still not working.

Barrett isn’t going to win us a premiership but either is the current roster, there is still a lot of work to do before the premiership window is open.

Hurts because it's true.

While we offer some greats signs we still show plenty from years past. Yes there is improvement but it's not consistent (yet) and not good enough to beat teams at the top level.

We can dream all we want but the sooner we accept the reality of it the better for our us, I'm starting too after last night.

I never was expecting a premiership this year or in the coming years, was just hoping for solid improvements all round.

Hard to tell, he had a shit side in his first year that Bellamy couldn't have got to the 8, and its only round 3 this year with a bunch of new players that haven't gelled yet.

I swear half this forum is 12

That’s the problem, he doesn’t make tough calls and he doesn’t mix up what we do each week. The opposition would know exactly what to expect. That’s what makes him a bad coach. I know it’s only personal opinion but it doesn’t change much week to week. We need something or someone to mix it up a bit and also take some chances for us to become better.

You expected to be beating top 4 sides in the first month with the new team?

Shane Flanagan is the best option at the moment, tough hard nosed, good for the club and players.
Premiership winning coach.
Apart from Fitzgibbon no others resemble Shane.

Guys there is a few of you who want Trent Barrett to be sacked. The big question is who could come in and replace him? I would put this out there -‘Brad Fittler’, he said if he could have his time again as a full time coach he would do things so differently - hemnow knows a thing or too after coach Orgin. Before you get angry about who I think, who else is out there - not much to choose from.’We don’t want anyone too old either, like a Wayne Bennett, Craig Bellamy type. They are going to have to be around for a long while to fix this mess. Maybe Tim Sheens. We need experience but not someone who is looking to wind down in the future. If it was 12 months ago, I would’ve said Craig Fitzgibbon but he got snapped up by the Sharks. I think we need a coach who’s tough but fair. I think Baz is too nice a guy to put a rocket up players when it’s needed. I don’t remember many successful coaches who were really chummy with the players when the chips were down.
You say some not old like Bellamy or Bennett but maybe Tim sheens? He is 70 years old mate haha

But but but Sharks premiership is tainted, but but but he signed Ennis

We have some very sensitive supporters who get upset when a proven winner is mentioned. They would rather keep losing with a specialist in failure because their feelings get hurt over Sharks & Flanagan winning a comp.

What are those tough calls ?
Well admitting he was wrong with Averillo and or Wakeham at half or evening the team was a start,JMK at 9 doesn't work, Burns definitely shouldn't be a centre and for fuck sake stop playing Jacko at first receiver and put him back on an edge and TPJ in the middle

Little doubt that the 2022 premiership will not be ours. However, I still support Barrett.
I dont believe the current roster is capable enough to win many games.
We are probably about 6 players short of what we need. It's going to be tough
as there is no real talent available in the near future.
