The police can take things further without her pressing charges if they believe a crime has been committed.

Not sure, just thinking of potentials. In all this though, one thing remains unclear. How did she get a black eye, and why was she admitted to hospital (which confirmed it)?

Only 3 ways I can think:
1. It happened BEFORE she rocked up at their place. Unlikely
2. It happened AFTER she left their place. Possibly but the injury had her admitted to hospital, someone called for an ambulance, and it was already past 4AM.
3. It happened AT their place. In which case, surely it's easy to explain in a statement if it's all above board (e.g she fell and hit her head on a bed post).

Seems strange the others involved haven't leapt to anyones defence either.

Without a shred of evidence, how hard was the media riding the story about supposide violence by Ben Barba against his ex (which turned out to be a lie)?

I'm still a firm believer that she was asked to leave, wanted to stay, so obviously punched herself in her eye causing the fracture. That's the most obvious explanation it seems (sarcasm).
