Wynyard Railway Station - 1948
A similar entrance was next to this, serving the North Sydney tram system, which came across the bridge and terminated at platforms 1 and 2.
Trams used the tracks of the never finished Peninsula Railway, which ran on the eastern side of the bridge from North Sydney station. There are two abandoned tunnels from North Sydney that head a short distance toward Mosman.

When the trams were taken out of the northern system, the lines were replaced by the Cahill Expressway, and platforms 1 and 2 at Wynyard abandoned.

Platform numbers were never re-allocated at Wynyard, which is why it only has platforms 3,4,5 and 6 today - something most commuters never notice.

If people are in the mood for nostalgic pics:
This is the opening ceremony at Belmore Station. You can make out the roof of the carriages, in the cutting, and the steps down to the platform.
