I'm not talking about slaughterhouses or the media, but the sheer wastage of meat and therefore animal life because you have people who only like ribeye etc or the huge amount of meat that gets stocked on shelves cannot possibly get eaten. There are fairly accurate studies done (in the US at least) of the amount of meat wasted. In Australia a study was done recently that suggests we waste $10 billion of food a year, now only a portion of that would be meat, but how much of that is acceptable? A quarter? Still a lot of needless death
Oh I utterly and unconditionally agree we waste soooooooooo much food and not just meat though, vegetables and fruits as well. It’s almost like I want an actual communist input in food hahaha. Like a family will have to register how much meat they want per week and vegeta and fruits.
What amazes me though, instead of companies giving away the meat to the homeless, it goes straight to the bin. It’s sort of like when we were kids and couldn’t finish something but didn’t want anyone else to have it so we’d throw it lol.

Here are some stats about meat consumption in the US (https://www.nrdc.org/sites/default/files/wasted-food-IP.pdf):
  • In 2013, the meat and poultry industry processed 8.6 billion chickens, 33.2 million cattle, 239.4 million turkeys, 2.3 million sheep and lambs and 112 million hogs, according to NAMI.
  • From those animals, U.S. meat companies produced 25.8 billion pounds of beef, 23.2 billion pounds of pork, 5.8 billion pounds of turkey, 286 million pounds of veal, lamb and mutton and 38.4 billion pounds of chicken, it said.
Its estimated 22% of meat products end up in landfill so from 93.5 billion pounds or 42.4 billion kilograms - 9.3 billion kilograms of meat is thrown out.
That is pretty disgusting tbh, humans have utterly overwhelmed the gluttony deadly sin. Legit if lefty greenies wanna protest something, protest that the vegeta and fruits that clearly are not always consumed, to be given to the friken poor in their own countries.
As in workout out how much waste usually occurs and ends up in the tips and allocate that amount or there abouts to feed the needy. I think that would work

But we only see what the media wants us to see, and what the media generally wants us to see is the negative. I’m willing to be the overwhelming majority of slaughter houses follow proper protocols and only the minority are shown through the media for agenda purposes not coz they actually care about the animals. The media likes to use people’s emotions for their own agendas. I’m saying that I’m pretty sure the slaughter houses that have been proven to do unthinkable things have copped huge fines or shut down or like got new owners/workers or something as it’s ilegal to know something illegal is happening and the government lets it keep happening especially once the media gets a hold of it.
In part. The majority of the slaughter houses are actually decent with their protocols but no one in the meat industry is entirely above board. Most farmers are good but when it leaves the farms then it gets worse. For example, all live export is torture for animals. There's no live export that takes care of the animals. Even local animal transport is horrible.

We have just grown to the stage where we want meat in our meals every day and the human population is massive so we've come up with more efficient ways to grow and farm meat. Unfortunately the most efficient way to farm meat is to remove all care.

As I pointed out earlier. We know that cows suffer when their children are taken away but that's how the milk industry works. It's not efficient to let the cows keep their children. On a standard farm the calves are raised with their parents and they're taken care of until it's time for them to become meat. In the industrial farms that doesn't work well so the cows are inseminated by the farmers then milked through pregnancy. After the cow gives birth the calf is taken away and killed as they're generally a waste of space especially if they're male, then the cow is milk some more then injected with bull sperm again to repeat the process. One of the key problems they encounter is that the milk cows die from the stress of losing their children.

It's general fear of liability. Give free food to someone and if they die then their family will sue. The stupid part is that if they're homeless then there's a decent chance their family either doesn't have the money to sue or they don't care.

Yeah I’m sure it’s not as simple as I made it out, but I’m sure there’s a way Bro. I for one won’t complain if poor people get a small portion of food for free. But obviously if they’re being given more for free and they literally won’t have to work and become comfortable being slobs then an issue arises. Fuck you know what, I don’t even know lol fuck us humans are confusing ducks

There are companies that now collect wasted food and give it to the homeless. It took a long while before they could do it though and it requires that they personally inspect the food, and if someone dies then the company cops the entire blame. The government are really tight on it.

And meanwhile there are millions dying of starvation around the world it does my head in at some point in the future the human race will be in deep shit if we don't change our attitude to the sustainable exploitation of our natural resources both on the land and the oceans.

I like this idea, I remember working at Coles years ago and watching the store man throw loaves of bread and cakes etc into a huge dumpster and questioning why we couldn't just give it away.
Back then it was about business in that if they gave it away, people would just hang out waiting for the huge dump ..No talk of liability .
