Bulldogs winger Hasem El Masri expected to announce his retirement on Tuesday
From staff writers
June 29, 2009
Bulldogs legend Hasem El Masri is expected to announce at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon that 2009 will be his final year in the NRL.

The 33-year-old, who was born in Lebanon, cut his teeth on football and didn't play rugby league until his teens, but by 1996 he was playing first grade for the Bulldogs.

Fourteen years later he's become an ornament to the game, and now holds the record for most games for the Bulldogs with 305 games. He's also the highest point-scorer in Australian Rugby League history.

He is hoping the NRL can find him a role after retirement

Wont hit till i hear it and see him play his final game :(

All these achievements yet hack journos still cant spell his name right.

It won't hit anyone till his last game. Legend of the Dogs and of the game. Love ya Haz :D

I just hope it's a decision he has made, and not one the club and media have made for him.

After he retires, he will be spoken about in the same breath as Terry Lamb, and Steve Mortimer. A true legend of our great club.

He is going to be such a loss to the game. Heres hoping the NRL can offer him something

Retire...Haz.....again?

He is a modern day bulldog legend. Have seen his career from the start. I feel privileged to have seen such a magnificent boy blossom into a young man. Has put everything into this club and he will always be one of the greatest to ever put on the blue and white of Canterbury. Shame he didnt achieve more at the elite level of the game even though statistically he is one of the best backs of all time.

1988 Mortimer retires and we win the comp.
1995 Lamb retires and we win the comp (his comeback in 1996 doesn't count lol).

Can Haz keep the trend going.

I hope to GOD that's the case.

He deserves it just as much, if not more...

i reckon hes got 1 more year left in him

we also won the comp when Steve Price left the club. is that counted?

Well if it is nearly time - we'll celebrate his football career in style

I think it's a perfect time to bow out. He is still playing well, has guaranteed his spot for the rest of the year and is playing in a team that has a big chance of going all the way.

If he plays on next year he will have to again prove he is the best man for the job. And it would be a massive shame if he isn't up for it and finishes his career in reserve grade.

He might see the chance to go out a winner, although if he ends the year as good as he has started it or better, you'd like him to go around 1 more time.

Knowing he was going this early in the season will provide a decent and deserved build up to his last match, and give the players a new reason to lift to the finals and beyond, but he wont really know how capable he is of another year till the end of the season.

going to be a sad day tomorrow when he announces it,

btw he will be working at the NRL as an ambassador
