No one said he was the only one responsible. But he deserves a fair bit of credit considering he was the head of football and his main focus was protecting and developing their junior nursery and setting up an academy etc. Which they're reaping the rewards from now as most of their premiership winning 17 are juniors.

he set up pretty good junior pathways and recruited well, got rid of overpaid underachievers and brought in cheaper, quality players, set up systems there that make them successful with talent in all grades and ensuring a steady stream of players join the panthers from across the state as kids, the 5 year plan worked and now they're likely to make their 3rd grand final in 3 years and potentially go back to back. yes he sacked cleary and hook - so what? hook isnt doing anything spectacular at st merge and cleary is back at penrith doing nothing because that team is so good and familiar with each other that it doesnt even need to be coached.
compare that to the dogs, shit salary cap position (up until now), no junior pathways, bog average reserve graders, sub par first graders on too much money, dan ferris, 5 from 35 games won in 2 years, an under performing coach in barrett... you could go on all day.

The only reason Penrith got Ivan back was because Nathan was about to walk out and sign with the Tigers to join Ivan. He sacked Cleary because at the time his record was average.

It's only since Ivan's come back with a golden generation of juniors that his record has been great. Which is mainly in thanks to the foundations laid to protect and develop their nursery and ensure they didn't keep losing their best juniors like they did before Gus arrived.

its not a 5 minute fix, but he's done more this year to turn it around than what previous administrations have done in 5 years. it will get better for the bulldogs.
barrett was sacked because he could not get a win. any coach with the same record at any other club would have been sacked, its not a gus thing, its an NRL coaching failure thing.
no player has walked out, naden was told his position was under pressure because hes shit and offered to the tigers. he took that opportunity up. nobody else has gone anywhere.

I think Barrett has proven that coaching the Panthers doesnt really prove anyhting as a coach. Gould had Wayne Bennett coming to the Panthers but the board over-ruled him and went with Cleary - would you be happy wiht Bennett?
Gould then left. Gould's work is done at Panthers and they will probably be a top 8 team (barring a bad injury year) forever moving forward, because of his work.
