And also Huge Congratulations to Our U14 Velocity All Stars Hooker Mason Phillips signing a 2 Year NRL Development Contract with The Canterbury Bulldogs
Mason played in both Our 2021 Matches against QLD and Southside Barbarians and was outstanding in both , Playing eyes up Footy out of Dummy Half
Well done Mason , We are excited too follow your Footballing Journey
Mason Phillips got a very decent upgrade after the Nationals taking him through till the end of grade 12 (now a 3 year contract) with the Bulldogs. Bulldogs scout Lane Bird along with Dave Hamilton watched 1 game in November last year (Velocity Allstars)…only the 2nd time Mason had played as hooker (was originally in the halves) and offered him a very basic contract to start with. Mason didn’t play club footy in 2021 and plays up a year in Schoolboys and being so small nobody else was interested. Bulldogs (all clubs) pay the fees and the gear for any Rep teams the kids make and $$$ Bonuses for making Rep teams plus some yearly $$$ and full medical cover if your one of the lucky ones. Trips to Sydney and camps with GusDefinitely gives them something to focus on and work towards. It helps out families that may not be able to afford entering their kids in trials for Rep teams because of the costs involved. The Australian National Carnival cost $1250.00 to play. While the chances of these kids actually playing in the NRL is very very unlikely it certainly gives them an opportunity to be in and around an NRL club and it’s players etc and hopefully keeps them in the game. Masons older brother played 48 Intrust Super Cup games, double the amount of Dads A grade games so Mason has a bit to achieve to shut the family up
For those who are interested (because yes they are only 15 yrs old)

The Australian National Carnival cost $1250.00 to play plus travel and accommodation if not in your local area. While the chances of these kids actually playing in the NRL is very very unlikely it certainly gives them an opportunity to be in and around an NRL club and it’s players etc and hopefully keeps them in the game. The signed kids will have all been to Belmore/ Sydney numerous times before finishing school which is invaluable if offered a full time development contract at the end of grade 12. Masons older brother played 48 Intrust Super Cup games, double the amount of Dads A grade games so Mason has a bit to achieve to shut the family up.
