Official Dogs sign Leo Thompson (2026)

Why do people think getting Pahulu early improves us this year? He’s 20. Sure will be helpful for his development coming here 12 months in advance but he isn’t making a serious impact until 2026 or later
You're right but another year under a spiteful Des will be disruptive to this kid's progress.

Im the same, i never even heard of him till people started posting on here we were interested. Ill have to watch him more closely this year yet he will be off the back of probs best pack in nrl

Who knows how much the deal is really worth, but some people seem to think we're still in 2005.

Quick mafs:
Salary Cap is about $12M by the time you throw in the veteran allowances and yada yada. This will go up again after 2027 when PNG etc come in and new TV deal is done.
30 players.
Average $400K each.
A regular (starting) first grader is generally pulling more than that. $800K on an international player, whilst high, is hardly crazy money.

Ive crunched numbers a few times, like u say seems pretty hard to me to butcher a salary cap these days

Cause he made an impact at 19 for 19 games?

He turns 21 in May & he didn't make that much of an impact. He was decent for his age. Can improve big time though.

Normally when big forwards get hammnered like that is because of a too upright running style and torso square on to the defence.
Plus receiving the ball a split second before coming in contact with defenders dosent help along with the only player who was coming
forward without any dummy runners.

As @Big-Kahanus noted it wasn't the greatest pass from the dummy half but agree Thompson does run a little upright.

Confident young Leo will make the necessary adjustments .....

Thompson is tough, just gets up.The Uele hit saving grace was it was the biggest hospital pass of the year from his dummy half.
Also props get whacked now and then,, every single one of them.

I remember Sam Burgess getting flattened by SHAUN JOHNSON lol

It just happens sometimes, especially to props who run as hard as Leo runs.

I also think clubs spend a major % of it on their top 13/17 too. Can't remember the number.

He isn’t going to save the world this year if he came. But he will add something we lacked last year. If Amone doesn’t excel we are in the same boat last year. Relying on Burtons boot for field position.

Make no mistake Burtons long kicking game was the number one reason we made the 8.

Our middle go forward in attack, as well as conceded yardage in defence through the middle was terrible.

As a result our defence was able to remain fresh and solid.

he is young and still developing but at least he has basically a full year of NRL behind him. Which puts him ahead of our current developing middles.

Yes and I am confident he will make the necessary adjustments under Ciraldo and not OBrien.
Only wish he was learning now, not in 2026.

I like the signing.

I'm nit going to say top 4 like others for 26, but our pack is looking pretty good. Especially if Sam can develop more along with Hayes, Todd and Underhill.

Is there one called Spinks? .Anyway what I've seen of him if that's his name, he looks good too.

Yep - you got it!!
Logan Spinks - 190cm , 98kg - Second rower who just turned 20 in December.
Still eligible for Flegg again this year.
But he could be getting quality minutes in Cup to fast track his talent.
He's listed as one of our development players according to ZT (but then - so was Fanafou)??!!
Let's not mention the war!

Anyway, Spinks goes hard.
Every chance this guy is going to grow into a decent NRL player.

Didn't Lachlan Lewis put JWH on his back?
Am I remembering that correctly?
