NRL 2024: Transfer Whispers, Leo Thompson, Bulldogs, Knights, Ben Hunt, Clint Gutherson, St George Illawarra Dragons, Parramatta Eels, contracts (foxsports.com.au)

The Bulldogs are reportedly the favourites to sign arguably the most sought after forward in the NRL in Knights enforcer Leo Thompson.

WWOS’ The Mole reported the Bulldogs are in the box seat to land Thompson, who is set to test his value on the open market from November 1.

Thompson still has a year to run on his Knights’ deal worth a reported $350,000, but come November 1 he is set to field offers from a variety of clubs hunting quality front-rowers, including the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs are desperate to add reinforcements to their middle, which was an area they struggled in despite making the finals in 2024.

The 24-year-old is currently with the New Zealand Test team and can drive his asking price up even further with a big performance in the Pacific Championships.

Thompson could command at least double his current salary on the open market and the Bulldogs have money to spend as they prepare to let Josh Addo-Carr go, who has been linked with the Dragons.

However, new Knights recruitment boss Peter O’Sullivan knows the club needs to keep Thompson and will cdo everything in his power to keep Thompson, given the club let Daniel Saifiti leave to join the Dolphins.

The Knights have already had talks with Thompson and his manager but the talented front-rower is in no hurry to put pen to paper, until he tests his value on the open market.

Thompson has scored two tries in 64 NRL games for the Knights since his debut in 2022 and has played three Tests for the Kiwis to date.

Would be a massive signing if it comes to fruition.

Sorry in advance if this has already been posted

Wasn't this whole rumour started by the mole

(aka Tony Adam's aka the lurker who sounds like he hides in bathroom stalls)

The Bulldogs "are in the box seat" apparently because"they have money to spend".
Logically the Bulldogs would be in the box seat to sign any available player for the same reason.
But Gus is not paying overs for any player.
So the amount of money the dogs have is irrelevant.

what a,load of bullshit. Why,are the dogs favourites? Let me guess we have the most money to buy him or perhaps we need forwards? Some of the crap that gets thrown around in the media is just amazing. Have the dogs even spoken to him? Well it's not Nov 2 yet although we know that means nothing.

I’m surprised Bunji Marshall Mathers hasn’t thrown Disney Land money at him yet

Any info the mole got was read on the kennel, I do hope we sign him but these guys are clutching at straws because they know we need a good prop and that we'll obviously make him an offer.

Given what Thompson has said himself, if he moves he'll want to move to a team with an experienced forward pack he can learn a lot from. That's assuming he wasn't just making a stage be because he was put on the spot when asked.

Saifiti left Newcastle so doubt theyl let Thompson go.. they have plenty of players they would let go of first to free salary cap..

I don't think it's up to Newcastle anymore. Players want a good wage but they also want to be part of successful setups. Newcastle has been wading water around the 8 to 10 positions and don't seem a serious threat anytime soon, which would probably look at Thompson moving

Money first .. players leaving Panthers for Tigers..

In reality, Gus is more inclined to go for Hunt or Gutho… this purely based on the inexperience that cost us a finals matchup with Roosters after dominating for 75mins and clocking off on two of the most influential players in the Sea Eagles roster.
