Last year Cronulla bought Todd Murphy. I seen him play twice last year and he missed conservatively 12 tackles (one on one) in those two games. Now all the garbage reports week in week out about he is a real spark with the ball, short kicking game, good talker etc...... About a month out from the end of last year at a fan forum it was put to Flanagan as to why Murphy hadn't got a go a go in First Grade, the response was "he cant tackle" Josh Cleeland is Todd Murphy all over again.
Tackling can be taught. If Langer /Lockyer can make it at NRL with their defensive ability there is hope for all halves with defensive issues

if he cant tackle now then he cant be taught, it is called puting your body on the line, maybe he is soft which is not a good sign and maybe the reason why he hasnt made it
Cody Walker didnt 'make it' either until 26years.. but most would agree he belongs in NRL

Its unfortunate but that's how these guy's are taught. Its all catch and hold stuff and junior coaches watch first grade and are protecting kids from being in the front line and learning the art of hard first up contact. Little men are always gunna be at a disadvantage, but if your exposed to it at a younger age instaed of being protected from say 8 years of age, and told too defend 1 in from the winger because your a liability, but i don't blame the kids, there is probably only a handfull of old hard heads coaching in the juniors that know the absolute correct technique to really whack, and the correct body positioning for smaller men, to be effective in the line. And im not saying that this is the case for cleeland, but i know he cat tackle very well.

Let's hope this guy can come in and solve our halves crisis. Anyone know much about him?

Saw a fair bit of him this year and he was one of the big reasons newtown went so well. Had a very strong first half of the year.

His biggest negative part of his game is his defense. He's really going to have to improve this area otherwise he will get destroyed in the top grade

On the upside his strength by far is his kicking game. Has a very good short kicking game which you guys are in desperate need of. He is also a strong ball runner with a good step and seemed to do well leading a team around the park. He's a real halfback.

Whether des picks him ahead of mybe or reynolds is another question.

Why did you sign with us?

I feel so sorry for Cleeland and our other juniors. Imagine if you were 19 and had the potential to make a great rugby player but this stubborn idiot refused to promote you?
Hahahaha... it's all part of the master plan! Under the radar this year(like the roosters last year) play him with Foran next year and win the Comp! Hasler is the mad scientist! He knows what his doing. I just hope he will be at another club next year, So we can start our rebuilding sooner rather than later!
