The whole team was shit and shouldn’t even be mentioned on the dally m night. Who gives a shit what a journo has rated a player. Players care about what other players think of them not the flogs at the telecrap

Ponga couldn’t even make origin this year. Idk how he won it off 10 odd good games. Wasn’t even fullback for the beginning of the season. How Walsh didn’t win fullback is beyond me.

Grant wasn’t the best hooker in the game either. Egan was more deserving.

Idk how the best try didn’t go to Young either.

Many odd decisions.

Congratulations to Ponga. Tore the game apart in last 11 games. Well deserved, unlucky for Johnson, yet one point short is still a great effort.

Dally M’s are ridiculous.
on what planet is To’o not the best winger in the game?
Ponga is not the best player in the comp this year. Many things wrong with that result.
You shouldn’t be able to have 10 good games and win the biggest individual award in the game.
it’s an advantage to be a gun player in a shit team. Ponga, Hynes, Drinkwater and Chez all in the top 10.
Johnson polled second by a point but had AFB only 2 spots behind.
The only other team to have 2 in the top 10 was the panthers and they could only muster 13 points less than Johnson.

…Move to MVP voting.

How did Ponga win it over Johnson. Ponga wasn't even the best fullback this year.
Agreed.
Like when Fighton won it a few years ago he wasn't even the best player at the faiders.
Nrlol will always have their agendas and made sure Pinga had redemption after his "toilet trip" indescretion.
Yawn.

Let's bring the journos straight in!

Abit of controversy gives the 360 guys something to provide their opinion on, only to be to ganged up on, depending on who the producers think should be the scapegoat of the day....

It's usually between Buzz and Reedy

6 point system is fucked... draw isn't balanced. Dumb ***** who run these things have no idea, they just made it more unfair imo.
What is it with the number 6? Have the NRL sold themselves to Satan or something? 6 agains, 6 point system, whats next? Top 6!?

Not even Preston got a mention in the Rookie of year category and it's shows how bad we fell away after those couple of early wins when Kiraz went from leading the Dally M at one stage to not even making the final cut for winger of the year category.
Preston was never in the contest despite the homers here

This is what happens when News Ltd journalists decide the award.. Johnson was easily the most deserving this year. There's no way Ponga should have won.

I agree with Shanked that Grant was average this season and didn't deserve it..

Not in any other sport would a player get an mvp when they missed half the season

The whole system needs a restructure.

They need to banish the suspension rule and the points system is ancient. Doesn't work anymore because there are so many good players in the comp and for whatever reason the people handing out the points feel obliged to give the 'best player' on the winning team max points as opposed to giving the best performer on the night the points.

It should be a system where at the end of the season 50 analysts/former players/hall of famers etc get 5 votes and they vote 1 to 5 who they think the best player in the comp is taking into consideration the totality of the whole season. Ponga only showed up for 50% of the year but he benefited because he played through origin period against weaker opposition and Knights went on a run where they had a favorable draw and won everything whereas SJ had the better season overall.

Agree. The whole points system and especially the calibre of the judges awarding the points needs looking at.

I agree it needs an overhaul and suspensions shouldn't count as those weeks missed lead to no points anyway..

I think it shouldn't be week by week scoring. Just base it on the best players over the course of the season and change it to an MVP like award.

Johnson was by far the best player in the comp this season and got robbed..

No doubt..

Webster gets coach of the year but everybody knew it was really SJ. Just like Reynolds at the Broncs...

How many clutch moments for the win did Pinga provide?

You look at both their stats throughout the year and SJ is head and shoulders above the rest...

Hopefully the system gets an overhaul, then again its the NRL.... It will probably get worse.
