The mother-in-law is a nurse. She lives on the NSW/VIC border. They brought her up to Sydney to help vaccine roll-out recently but they're telling her that they may need to more her to ICU.

Apparently we still have a fair few ICU beds (around 600 total, but that includes non-covid ICU) and many hospital beds that can he converted to ICU, but they don't have the nurses to staff the beds.
Yup, that is usually the main problem. Manufactured parts of the solution are never the issue for long, it becomes a human staffing issue.

Think WW2, the tanks and planes got made, the problem became having sufficiently trained people to operate them.

Doesn't help that the system seems to almost actively discourage people from taking on these vital careers.

This lockdown is really hurting my children.

Another 8 weeks of no school, no socialising, no learning.

My 14 year old nephew has gone from happy and outgoing to reserved and anxious.

This is a joke. We clearly are not all in this together.
Mate it's full on we are doing the right thing I'm riding home from work the other day past the skate park maybe 200 hundred people there parents blankets beers like nothing's has happened, it really bothered me thinking I'm sacrificing my kids lives just fucking wait till the vaccine is up there then go fucking nuts .

And trust me. Thats not an isolated incident.

So when do we get to the point and say "compliance is not above 70%. Fuck it. i have done everything i should. my children are suffering."

How can I, as a parent, impose this on my children until October 25th? I'll be sending them back to school for a few days a week.

Hospitalisations rise 42% in a week
The number of people admitted to hospital after testing positive to COVID-19 has increased by 42 per cent over the past week, forcing private hospitals to activate surge plans and deploy nurses to public wards. There are 917 coronavirus patients spread across 35 NSW hospitals, up from 645 last week, and just under 2300 are receiving hospital-led care at home while 1429 healthcare workers are isolating.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian says modelling shows hospitalisations are not expected to peak until “sometime in October” because of the time it will take for recent vaccinations to take effect. Labor Leader Chris Minns called on the Premier to release a specific forecast so hospitals can prepare “before October comes around”.
Ms Berejiklian said the rise in hospitalisations would not stop the state reopening once the vaccination rate hits 70 per cent, and said people could enjoy international travel and home quarantine once it passed 80 per cent. The state is on track to fully vaccinate 70 per cent of the eligible population (16+) by mid-October, before hitting 80 per cent in November.
However, until then, there are concerns for the wellbeing of the locked-down elderly population because rules allowing outdoor exercise with one other person do not apply to aged care residents. Barbara Olliff, 97, says while she is very well looked after, she feels she has “lost her sense of purpose”. Her daughter Judy Christian, a psychologist who has not seen her since June, says the change in her mother’s mood is “absolutely tragic” and believes she is showing classic signs of depression.
Cases: NSW recorded 1116 local cases, including 32 in western NSW and five in Parklea prison. There were four more deaths, taking the outbreak’s toll to 100. There are 917 patients in hospital, including 150 in ICU and 66 on ventilation. Victoria recorded 120 cases, and there are 58 patients in hospital there. The ACT recorded 23 cases, while New Zealand had 75.
Vaccines: 334,832 doses were administered on August 31, the latest reporting period. 12,293,802 people have had their first dose (46.94% of the total population or 59.62% of 16+) and 7,639,320 are fully vaccinated (29.74% of all Australians, 37.05% of 16+).
‘Scaremongering’: Federal MPs accused the Queensland Premier of misleading people on risks of COVID to children.
‘Royal snub’: The Premier attended a business forum the day she refused to meet mayors from Sydney’s hotspots.
Wilcannia outbreak: Motorhomes will open next week to house positive cases, but Labor says it took too long.
Partygoers fined: Police investigating illegal parties in Sydney’s eastern suburbs fined nine men $1000 each.
Around the world: A US woman was charged after selling fake vaccination cards and the EU vaccinated 70% of adults.

Yeh i think its getting to the point his parents are saying "fuck the government" and going to bend the rules and get him out with others again.

Both parents are double-vaxed. They wont visit anyone who isnt doible vaxxed. I cant condone it, i dont want to know if they do, but i don't blame them. Look at channel 10, bondi is fucken packed. Yet he is mentally going off the rails in a southwest LGA
Yeah I have noticed this stuff my Mum who has never got a parking fine is already talking about going and seeing my sisters kid 2 year old as they are all both double Vaccinated even though my sister lives in Canterbury council. That coming from Mum mean a lot of people will be doing a lot worse..

'I literally don’t know when I am going to see my 3yo son again'

  • 'Outrageous’ NRL families can enter Queensland but three-year-old deni...

Separated by harsh border closures, a Queensland mum has no idea when she can see her three-year-old son again.

Back in July, Dominique and Mick sent their three-year-old son Memphis to visit his grandparents on their farm south of Griffith, in NSW.

At the time, the Queensland parents had no idea that this would be the last time they would see their son for nearly two months.

The family have been divided after the Queensland-NSW border slammed shut on July 23 – leaving Memphis unable to return home to his parents.

“It’s pretty tough when you’ve got your son on the phone crying, just wanting to come home,” Dominique told The Courier Mail.

"I literally just don’t know when I am going to see my son again”

When the border closed, the family were given just 12 hours to return Memphis home – which was impossible as the 1,500km journey would have taken far longer.

Dominique offered to drive to the border to pick up her son and take him straight to their isolated property, about 40km west of Hervey Bay – but this plan was swiftly rejected.

Instead, the family were told that their only option was to take Memphis to Sydney and have him flown home, where he would need to complete two weeks hotel quarantine.

“He is immune-compromised… and they wanted me to put my son and parents in a COVID hotspot just to come home… I wasn’t going to compromise their health and safety,” Dominique said.

The family have since tried four times to apply for an exemption on compassionate grounds but they have so far been rejected - despite the fact that NRL families have been allowed to cross the border into Queensland, which Dominque describes as a “kick in the guts”.

She said that she is rapidly running out of hope and is now “in a situation where I literally just don’t know when I am going to see my son again”.

“It has an effect on not only him but on me. Does he think that I don’t want him, does he think he has done something wrong?” she added.

"All she keeps asking is when she can go and see her mum and dad"

Unfortunately, Dominique’s family aren’t the only ones separated by the harsh border closure – with Kidspotyesterday reporting on an eight-year-old girl who has been forced to hug her parents over the border barricades.

Little Bonnie’s grandmother Jayne explained that the little girl currently lives with her in Tweed Heads, just inside NSW, due to school commitments.

In normal times, Boyd and Kathy are easily able to travel down from Brisbane to see their daughter – but COVID has changed that.

The harsh border closure has divided the family, with the heartbroken parents unsure when they will be able to properly see Bonnie again.

“It’s heartbreaking, I’ve had to get her sorted with homeschooling, but she can’t even concentrate on that. All she keeps asking is when she can go and see her mum and dad,” Jayne sadly told The Gold Coast Bulletin .

To make matters worse, Bonnie recently went through a major leg surgery, with Jayne fearing that her progress will be undone as the little girl isn’t allowed into Queensland to attend medical appointments.

“We’ve had appointments cancelled; we’ve had to have phone ones too. Her parents and I have been fighting to have her little legs fixed and now I worry all her progress might come undone,” she

So they can make exceptions for footballers and their WAGs to go up north but this poor woman can't get one to be reunited with her kid? Sounds like they have their priorities in order..

But you have to understand Phoebe and Cloeee the little blonde wives from the Central Coast need to post pics on Insta of their bubs and hubby’s walking on the beach eating prawns ( I no I forgot they are all anno) living their best life - Stay safe Everyone in these difficult times - oh to be back in Koh Samui (which they will be in a month anyway) Why should those people in the story you posted get priority over the wags. They are doing it tough standing by their hubby’s in their three bedroom house with a nice backyard in Cronulla whilst their husbands get their fuck on with younger blonde chicks up the goldy with the help of a bitta Bondi marching power to elevate the stress of entertaining us plebs week in week out. Just look at Canterbury they are giving their all to entertain the fans. Think of the wags they need a holiday too..

Oh dear. Thought the average Aussie was a bit smarter. Shows the danger of the crap doing laps on the interwebs and how the more impressionable can fall for it:

So someone explain this to me.. I can go to a concert, restaurant or a sporting event if I'm double vaccinated along with the other attendees but I can't see my family and go to their house or try and care for my 83 year old grandmother who lives by herself when everyone else in my family is or will be double vaccinated? And they wonder why people break the rules..

A lot of families affected by border closures :(

Be devastating and kinda worse knowing your child is forced to stay OS and in a country with far worse health facilities than we have. Terrible situation for mums and dads. And the Australian Govt were going to fine you $5000 if you tried to get home from India.

Exactly mate. Heartless hypocrites. There was a lady on the radio yesterday who had to postpone her cancer treatment and has been living in a motel in Tweed Heads for 8 weeks because they won’t let her return home for her treatment

That's horrible. Talk about a lack of compassion. It's one thing if people have lame excuses but for cancer treatment you'd think they could make an exception. Especially for people who live at Tweed Heads which is right on the border.
