MANLY have slammed the Bulldogs' attempt to poach coach Des Hasler with a $2.4 million three-year offer, labelling the family club "hypocrites" who should focus on developing their own talent.

The Bulldogs made a secret approach to Hasler six weeks ago but were told the Sea Eagles coach had activated an option to remain at Manly for next season.

Not content, Canterbury board members hatched a plan to throw $800,000-a-season at the 2008 premiership-winning coach. A furious Manly Leagues club chairman Bob Reilly has moved to ensure Hasler becomes the first 10-year coach on the northern peninsula.

Reilly emailed 22,000 members of the Sea Eagles leagues and football clubs yesterday re-affirming Manly's intention to secure Hasler beyond 2012.

When contacted by The Sunday Telegraph, Reilly said: "Is this the same Bulldogs club who were whingeing about compensation and injunctions when Sonny Bill Williams walked out on a contract a couple of years ago?

"That sounds extremely hypocritical to me. Don't worry, we've heard about the supposed $800,000-a-season offer. What about their form? First they poached Trent Hodkinson off us, then they went after William Hopoate.

"And now to cap it off they're trying to pinch our coach, who played more than 250 first-grade games for Manly and has been at the helm as coach for eight seasons.

"The whole thing stinks.

"The Bulldogs should be worrying about their own backyard - not what's going on at Manly."

Since sacking Kevin Moore in July, the Bulldogs have repeatedly drawn up hit-lists of high-profile coaches, including Hasler and Melbourne Storm's Craig Bellamy.

Officially, there have been no talks with NSW Origin coach Ricky Stuart, but only a fortnight ago the club discussed appointing Stuart as a coaching director and making caretaker Jim Dymock head coach.

Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg confirmed this option but said it was not "our preferred choice".

The latest move, as of last week, was to try to entice Hasler to Belmore.

The Sea Eagles have been in negotiations since June to extend Hasler's deal until the end of 2014 and even have a sub-committee set up to try to ensure he remains at the club.

But negotiations hit a stalemate two weeks ago when media manager Peter Peters was abruptly sacked - leading to a split between Hasler and the club's chief operating officer David Perry.

Since then, the pair have become sworn enemies.

The Bulldogs have seized on Hasler's discontent, contacting the coach again through a third party.

I would love the TG to get Hasler, just to piss off that turd Reilly!!

Message to Reilly.....

"Hey Bob, don't like the taste of your own medicine.....you HYPOCRITE!!!"
"There is only one hypocrite, and that's you!!Shame on you scumbag. When your club was going around trying to sign every Rep player in the comp, you weren't complaining then.....*******!!!!"

keating will NEVER be the answer for 5/8 we are *******s for letting roberts go
What about Todd Carney?

On another point which nobody seems to have said a lot about. I am really concerned by our loss of props from 2011 to 2012.

I know Hodgson and Armit were getting on, Paea is also leaving and Tandy was supposed to be with us in 2011/2012.

So, that's 4 we are losing and one we are gaining (being James Graham) = overall loss of 3.

Who is really shining and putting their hand up from NSW Cup - maybe only Tim Browne.

There will be an injury or two to our front row next year (for example, we lost Tolman for about 6 weeks this year because he is not that big and was playing so many minutes).

Where does that leave us? Our genuine props are Tolman, Kasiano, Graham and Tim Browne - 4 of them.

I do not include Millington or Eastwood as they are not specialist props.

We are very thin IMO and it really worries me.

That's OK and I think Tapau has been going well but looks to me like he still has a way to go.

As much as I hate both of them (Hannant for being a money hungry liar) and Tandy (for being a cheat) they are massive losses to the Dogs and exactly what we are still missing. Props with genuine size, experience and go forward.

It is for this reason that I can't understand why we let Paea go

i agree with you but i think tolman and graham will make up for the losses with their work rate and also the young blokes play with a lot of passion and determination, especially taupau. the first game i saw him play he palmed off like 5 players. kasiano i think lacks experience but will come good in the near future, drops the ball too much. we also need more offloads coming from our forwards as pritchard does, see barba make a lot more breaks

I think our front row depth is adequate. We have 2 star props (Tolman based on his work rate, and Graham who is a international player and potential captain of Great Britain). Unless we lose one of those props for a long period of time we should be all sweet. Each of Tolman and Graham should get through 60 mins per game so that only leaves 20-25 mins for the replacement prop.

Kasiano will be dynamic coming off the bench (plenty of size and impact there), then we have Taupau (injury has cut short both his stints in first grade) he has plenty of speed, decent size, has great hands, and can pass before the line as well as off load through the line, hard hitting forward too. I think potential wise they are our future and should be on the bench (Taupau can also play back row due to his speed).

After that we have Browne (did he re-sign with us?). Very quick for such a big bloke (must be around 6ft 5). Strong runner, chews up the meters and can bend the line. Injuries have crippled his career so far, but has the potential to make rep teams. He would be handy on the bench if you can fit Taupau, Kasiano and himself on it (mind you it will be a massive bench, you would hate to get injuries if you are carrying so much size on the bench).

Millington is a quality forward. He left a starting spot at the Sharkies and hasnt gotten the opportunities he deserves here. But in saying that with Browne, Kasiano and Taupau (if all are fit) he will struggle to get a start in first grade. Another hard hitting forward (prop/backrower). Nothing flash, he wont turn into a O'meley. But he will get through plenty of work while tackling players hard (they will feel all his tackles).

Thats half a dozen quality props. Eastwood should play wide, he shouldnt play anywhere near the middle of the field. I dont think we can carry 3 forwards on the bench (e.g. kasiano, browne, Taupau) as we need a mobile forward and a utility (unless we get Romelo on the bench who can fill in the back row)

Hopefully our coach next year picks teams based on form and not reputation. If anyone is not performing their place should be put under scrutiny.

Also with such a class back row (Prichard, Eastwood, Stagg, Halatau) we definitely should not struggle with making meters in 2012, our defense and line speed/ruck (in defense) should also improve greatly.

8.Tolman
9.Ennis
10.Graham
11.Prichard
12.Eastwood
13.Stagg/Halatau (do you want a tackler or a play maker???)

14.Kasiano
15.Taupau

You can either carry Browne to replace Eastwood and Pricahrd (neither of whom are renowned for playing long mins...as in 70mins/game) Mind you Taupau is more then capable as a back rower too)
16.Browne
17.Romelo

Otherwise you can carry Halatau on the bench to replace the back rowers, stagg plays 80 anyways. And you can inject Romelo in at either hooker or backrow (depends if ennis would be willing to go off for a 5-10 min breather)

Does anyone know when David Hala from Brisbane is off contract?
If it’s soon, he should be a priority for use, as a forward, who has:
Speed, Power, Mongrel, Strength
He almost snapped Corey Parker in half, with that suicide run on Friday night, and in a match against the Dragons earlier this year he barn stormed his way through their defence on numerous occasions.

Seriously, our forward pack has to be the best in the NRL next year.

8. Tolman
9. Ennis
10. Graham
11. Eastwood
12. Pritchard
13. Stagg

14. Kasiano
15. Taupau
16. Millington/payne/browne/halatau/anyone else?
17. Reynolds

Our backs are pretty decent aswell

1. Barba
2. Turner
3. Morris
4. Lafai
5. Lett/wright
6.
7. Hodkinson

If all these players play to their potential and as a team, anything can happen next year. The go-forward we will get will be vastly greater than this year and allow everything to role on from there.
