Under Des Hasler they were accused of losing their DNA, now Canterbury seem intent on putting the band back together with the appointment of another former Bulldogs premiership winner.

Andrew Farrar, who won three titles with Canterbury in the 1980s and a Bulldogs football club director, will take over as the team's football manager next season.

He will replace Alan Thompson, the former Australian swimming team head coach who had spent the past eight years with Canterbury after first taking on the job when Kevin Moore was the coach and Todd Greenberg was chief executive.

The Bulldogs' decision to part ways with the highly respected Thompson after a review and bring in Farrar from the boardroom appears the club's latest move in an effort to reestablish its identity after leaving supporters frustrated with the style of play they had adopted under Hasler.

Already, new coach Dean Pay, who was appointed last week, has pledged to restore Canterbury as the "family club" and forecast that his team would play "Bulldogs footy next year".

It is anticipated that Farrar, a former Illawarra and St George Illawarra head coach, would have to relinquish his role on the Canterbury board to take up the football manager's job. Farrar has also been Laurie Daley's football manager with the NSW State of Origin team in recent seasons.

Thompson's departure from Belmore will follow that of strength and conditioning coach Don Singe, who worked closely with Hasler at both Manly and Canterbury.

There may be more changes afoot to the Bulldogs support staff as well, with assistant coach Jim Dymock linked to a move to Cronulla. Dymock was disappointed to be overlooked as Hasler's replacement as the board opted for his 1995 premiership-winning teammate Pay.

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have continued their quest to bring back the club culture of old by appointing Andrew Farrar as the new General Manager of Football.

The former Bulldogs centre, who also represented New South Wales and Australia, takes over from Alan Thompson, who will finish up in his role later this year.

Farrar, has had a stellar career, playing 186 matches for the Bulldogs and appearing in 3 Premierships (84', 85', 88'). He currently sits on the Bulldogs Football Club Board.

In addition, Farrar had a superb Representative career, playing for both New South Wales (7 appearances) and Australia (1 Test), as well as being Head Coach of the Illawarra Steelers (97-98) and St George (2000-2002).

Farrar, has also been the Team Manager of the New South Wales Origin side since 2014 and will perform the same role for the Samoan team during the upcoming World Cup.

Chairman Ray Dib was delighted to bring another former Bulldog 'great' back into the club: "Andrew has a tremendous pedigree in the game of Rugby League, having performed at the highest level as a player, coach and team manager. He has a great affinity with the Bulldogs, having played in three Premierships and knows the culture of the club inside out. We are delighted that he will be able to bring all his football knowledge and experience to the role of General Manager of Football."

Farrar, was also looking forward to taking on the role: "I have a great affinity for the Bulldogs and have greatly enjoyed my association with them as a player and Board Member. It is a tremendous honour to be asked to take on the role of General Manager of Football and I look forward to working with new Head Coach Dean Pay and a talented group of players."

Farrar will start in the role after his World Cup commitments have finished with Samoa.

This is interesting for the board with 2 members gone already after Anothony Elias stepped down a few weeks ago.

Feels like they are going overboard now, every appointment is accompanied by "BULLDOGS DNA", "FORMER BULLDOG", "CULTURE" haha.
Yep we’re going to look like spastics if don’t make the 8 again next year!

Gee it's hard to please some people, 1 minute it's 'not Bulldogs enough' and the next it's 'too Bulldogs'.

He's coached teams in his own right and done numerous jobs in the industry, sounds like a great appointment to me.

True.

Its a fine line between "culture" and "nepotism".
It's alright we will have to wait and see. I feel good about 2018 now and hopefully the boys can reply with a solid season next year. Miss the times like 2012 where I was confident to win every game. Lol

We're rooting out all connections to WoManly and the infection that has plagued us for the last 6-8 years, this is a good thing and can only be positive moving forward.

They are jumping from one extreme to the other, i thought Dib said they weren't a reactive board? Haha.
every single move he has made in 2017 'from an outsiders perspective' appears to be reactive.....
