Bulldogs fans hammer Hasler after Sharks loss
Frustrated Canterbury fans have once again called for Des Hasler’s head after the Bulldogs slumped to their third-straight defeat with a 9-8 loss to reigning premiers Cronulla.
The Dogs led 8-2 at Shark Park before a Gerard Beale try and Chad Townsend field goal – both set up by Paul Gallen – guided the hosts to a thrilling win.
Canterbury were missing three Origin players – David Klemmer, Josh Jackson and Brett Morris – and lost James Graham to a neck injury in the first half.
The Sharks were also understrenght with four NSW representatives – James Maloney, Andrew Fifita, Jack Bird and Wade Graham - also unavailable.
A disappointed Hasler said the game turned on ‘one set’ in the second half when Gallen gathered a grubber and made it out of his in-goal area, with Beale scoring the Sharks’ only try moments later.
“I thought for most facets of the game we competed better, but the result’s on the scoreboard isn’t it, so that’s pretty insignificant when you look at it like that,” Hasler lamented.
But the vast majority of Bulldogs fans who posted comments on the club’s official Facebook page after the game were in no mood for excuses.
There was the odd comment in support of Hasler but the overwhelming majority were negative as the Dogs fell to 10th spot on the NRL ladder with a 5-7 record.
