Plenty of critics were pushing Ben Barba's case but he was never seriously in the running to be promoted to the Bulldogs' team for tomorrow night's game against Newcastle. Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore said Barba needed to make more progress before he could be considered for a first-grade finals game. ''Ben's probably a little bit off the pace at the moment,'' Moore said. ''He's got some terrific parts to his game but he's only 19 and needs to improve in other areas before earning that right to play in such a game.''

When was the last time you were a first grade coach mongoose? Your opinion means nothing compared to Kevin Moore, Steve Folkes and Andrew Johns who ALL have at one time or another said that Barba is not good enough yet.

According to all three Holdsworth > Barba

Not all this crap again...

Why Alex, why?

How much more can be said and written about the same two players and whether they should/shouldn't be playing?

Let it go people, lets just focus on the finals and the players that have been selected to feature in them and worry about the rest in the off season. Right now we should all be focused on our team winning against the Knights and ultimately the comp.

Our Toyota Cup team went **** this year didn't they - if these kids can't handle under 20's what's the point of "developing" them for FG just yet....

Because you dont look at the team effort .. you look at individual potential

Lower grades are all about spotting a players potential then developing it

A great lower grade TEAM means nothing ... but a handful of great individuals is what a team needs

Yeah **** the first grade team. We should be sacrificing the team for the good of Ben Barba. He needs to be "developed" in first grade even though he doesn't do what the coaches ask in NSW cup..

He's a really fast runner.

Spark.

Off the bench.

For life.

FG team was winning games with 7 interchanges over 80 minutes champ

Having Barba on the bench would not have hurt them ... well it certainly didn't against the Warriors

Forget it Eedz. What's done is done. All of that other stuff can be left for another time. It's week one of the finals and lets just hope the team gets the job done against Newcastle so we can get the week off.

All this other nonsense is just overkill and shouldn't be anyones focus one day out from a finals game.

We can discuss it - it's a team thing... not everything needs to focus on the finals. All Im saying is if barba was there lastweek, nothing would have made a difference because the problem was bigger then DJ. DJ has done the job before... so why wouldn't you give him the shot first? I do agree that barba needs to be blooded into the team - but i don't see barba coming into the halves... I actually think he might end up at FB.

letting him play for 20 mins per game is going to hurt his development, unless you want him playing both NSW Cup and FG. IMO the correct choice has been made. Letting him play in NSW Cup will aid him in his plight to get a FG position next year. He has improved since the beginning of the year, however he needs to keep working at it.

If he is making crucial errors in NSW Cup, he will make even more crucial errors in first grade. It all part of the learning curve. Moore has made the right call not to put him in the team.

I thought the only thing wrong with our game against Tigers was that Holdsworth didnt lead the team around like Noddy.

It wasnt so much kicking and passing that were issuse but we had no leadership.

Barba is not going to bring any more leadership to our side. They constantly say hes good at scoring tries but as a 5-8 he still has lots to learn in setting up plays and leading a team around.

I'm NOT talking about putting him NOW

I was talking about throughout the year .. obviously you can't put him in now

and as for this 20 minutes has no benefit .. thats just rubbish TBH
