Blue Boost actually said it perfectly!

John Howard said that this current generation of Australian's shouldn't have to pay for the mistakes made by earlier generations, and Kevin Rudd's term in office involved an apology.

Yep spot on. People alive in 2021 are not to blame for the sins of their parents or grandparents or great grandparents or anyone else.

You are individually responsible for you and you alone.

There's also a reason why people against Australia day are promoting the idea of 'group guilt' - they don't like individual responsibility.

If they had to consider that their sad and hate filled lives were the consequence of their own decisions (instead of the idea that rrrrrrrrrrracism caused their problems), it would be a difficult thought process.

Should have call it whatever you want week a 7 day paid public holiday.
In that week you can choose whatever you want to mourn ,celebrate whatever ...
I’m with you Southy..Let’s have Aussie’s in Wheelchair Day..we all get someone to put their finger up your bum 20 times..gloved of course..in the morning..than everyone gets wrapped up in bandage from neck to toe..so we can’t move.. Rest of the day we watch tv and try to swoosh away flies from us by blowing at them!!

Preferably May 8th (mayeight, say that quickly).
What is more Australian than that?
Fine work Sir.
You put Scotty from Marketing to shame.
All I ask regarding previous campaigns marketing ‘Straya - is: ‘Where the bloody hell were you?’ :-).

Like I said have it a three day celebration. Celebrate and recognise on the 1st day indigenous peoples and traditional owners. And the tradition that day is to sport an aboriginal flag T-shirt or whatever put a flag up on your house. Cook some kangaroo with salt bush seasoning and finger limes you know that sorta shit.

second day Australia Day celebrating and recognising the English coming here. There would definitely be a section that still call it invasion day but it’s still important. Definitely acknowledge the not so great things but just make it fun Lamb on the barbie and a few beers by the pool.

Then United Australia Day or New Australia Day which recognises the multicultural county we are. Go over to your Indian neighbours joint for a curry or invite your Kiwi friends over for your attempt at a hangi.. Or just sleep in because you have had two days on the piss and order Ogalo. That’s Portuguese..

Also and most importantly then we get three days off. The love of that is what brings us all together.

Just to be clear, you don't think changing the date is a worthwhile conversation to have?

No I don't.

I think a worthwhile conversation that would result in ACTUAL benefits for aboriginal people would be exploring the reasons why aboriginal kids are:

- So poorly educated, despite the significant amount of government programs used to incentivize
- Have such poor health outcomes
- Have such high rates of criminality

Discussion about a date for a national holiday is a side show to distract from the failings to make any meaningful difference to things that actually matter (health, education and crime).

btw - hats off to you if you actually try to have a meaningful conversation that looks into why those poor health / education and crime out comes are happening. It would take some balls to do it in public.

You'll be massacred by any number of people trying to tell you that you're a racist bigot for attempting to understand why aboriginals have such poor outcomes.

The conversations aren't mutually exclusive though. You have a portion of the population who happen to be the Indigenous of the land telling you they find the National Holiday divisive, so let's deal with that first, no?

Many of the 'activists' most strongly advocating for a change of date are inner city whites ashamed of their own heritage.

Of course some aboriginals advocate for it, but you'll likely find the passionate ones are mixed up with the inner city university / activist crowd.

Good luck finding some aboriginals on groote eylandt who give two shits about the date of Australia day lol.

it's interesting that you cite a lack of education as being a key issue amongst indigenous youth and then declare the only Aboriginals with a passionate opinion on Australia Day are ones with higher education.
