You do realise we are only 6 points out of the top 8?

Everyone here seems to think coaching was the issue, so if that’s proven true why can’t we make the top 8 with a different coach?
Because it’s not just a coaching issue, we still have a bottom 4 spine and that’s not going to change until 2023

He was Rickys assistant for many of his years at the Roosters as well. Coached the Dragons U20's to an undefeated season. He has the runs on the board.
Flanagan coached the Roosters U20s, developed players like Soward, SKD, Paea brothers. M Aubusson as well as being Sticky’s assistant. Also coached Oz Schoolboys, & has been assistant for both NSW & Kangaroos:-Good communicator no nonsense approach & importantly knows how to get the best out of individuals for the betterment of the team…

If Gus already has a coach lined up and he is free to start now then he should start now/soon

If we're appointing an interim coach then that would suggest we have don't have a coach lined up and that we're taking our time to find the best option.

If Flanno has already agreed to coach us next year, and he is free, I don't see the point in him waiting until next year to start. Yes I get it would be better for him in terms of his coaching record but in the best interests of the club he might as well start ASAP.

The quicker he can dump all the plodders to NSW Cup the better
Gus will be overseeing the Interim even if he denies it.

He said he knows whats going wrong and so will be involved in fixing it.

He will probs go thru the motions of doing the coach recruitment the public, right way but ultimately he will chose with Board approval.

We must be seen to be doing this new coach replacement in the best, most professional, analytical way possible.

If they hire someone by Wednesday. I would say they were looking earlier than Baz quitting timeline. Flanagan Snr could start right away, he’s busting to get back into it ASAP. As for others, I assume they would have to get out of commitments. I wouldn’t believe GUS though, I know he said we would have to look in the next few weeks at candidates but he as well as everyone else knows, strike while the iron is hot - otherwise we might miss a chance.

Flanagan is the experienced no nonsense coach we need atm.

We need a coach who can sort out the mess we are in. We need someone who at some level can stand up to Gus. Flanagan is the only one on the list that I believe is capable of that.

He will have contractual issues to sort out at both the Dragons and Fox. But within a few weeks I think he could be out head coach.

I think he will work this year out with the current assistant coaches. Before a coaching overhaul before 2023.

I would love to see Ennis & Noddy come in as his assistant coaches.

I have no doubt our new coach was picked on or before our roosters win.

Think about it, if our new full time coach starts this week, doesn't that go against the Baz quit narrative?

I highly doubt this board and Gus would of made a move without having a plan in place prior.

I'm for Flanagan also.
No surprise but Fox are throwing around terrible suggestions like Paul Green, Mary, Madge, etc. I'd give Jason Ryles a crack before any of those guys.

Appoint “new coach” NOW, why not let them take over an build into 23 with more knowledge and ideas,
this way they have an advantage to see what’s what and put things in place for a strong start to next year..!!
i agree with this tbf

Well I was going to surprise you..... But just call me caretaker ;) lol
We will be ready coach, none of this slacking of under my watch.
Every one will complete 100 star jumps followed by 30 strenuous burbies then once they have completed that rigorous workout straight into a very brisk jog around the oval.
That should have us ready, fit and agile for Friday night.
Strength is my motto

Im happy for an interim coach just as long its not Furner which i have a bad feeling it will be.
We need to make sure we find the right coach we cant keep on sacking coaches no one will sign with us!

Whats the point in stumbling into the 8 when we all know we wont win it.
The rest of the year we need to bring in some young blokes give them game time so they're ready next year for the new coach.

Besides Flanagan is busy-

Former Cronulla Sharks coach and current St George Illawarra Dragons recruitment and retention consultant Shane Flanagan has been announced as the coaching director for Papua New Guinea.

The Kumuls, who are in full preparation mode for the 2022 Rugby League World Cup to be played at the end of the year in England, have brought the experience of Flanagan on board to aid in the transition of head coach Stanley Tepend, who has recently replaced Michael Marum.

SH

SHANE FLANNAGAN WILL BE HEAD COACH. HAS THE BEST RECORD AS A NRL HEAD COACH OUT THE OTHER CANIDATES.
MICHAEL ENNIS WILL BE HIS ASSISTANT.
I think it will either be Flanno or Green. Even though his last few years at the cowboys were crap his first 5 years was great. Took them to the finals every year and won a comp as well as making another GF. He just got stale after a while.

Ennis wont join as an assistant. He may take some sort of consultancy role but thats it. The thing with blokes like Ennis, Cronk, Smith, Thurston and Johns is that they get paid literally twice as much to do TV and specialist coaching. If they become full time assistant coaches then they have to give up their TV gigs

100% they would’ve been getting a plan ready.

The other thing with those names is you can't comment about things in hindsight. You're in the firing line and open to criticism, it might not be so easy when the shoe is on the other foot. A few of them are genuinely good analysts, others I wonder how well they would go actually having to coach sides.

I would be surprised if the full timer takes over this year.

I'm guessing its either Sharp or Furner as interim, Gus mentioned experience as internal.
Experience is one side of the argument. Having success with that experience is critical. That rules Furner and a few others out.
