I think it will either be Flanno or Green. Even though his last few years at the cowboys were crap his first 5 years was great. Took them to the finals every year and won a comp as well as making another GF. He just got stale after a while.

Ennis wont join as an assistant. He may take some sort of consultancy role but thats it. The thing with blokes like Ennis, Cronk, Smith, Thurston and Johns is that they get paid literally twice as much to do TV and specialist coaching. If they become full time assistant coaches then they have to give up their TV gigs
Green will be a very big mistake. He had a much better roster at the Cows than we have. Including JT at the peak of his powers. His record with the team he had isn’t great. Green is the very last on the list maybe with the exception of Fittler. We couldn’t possibly consider Fittler I hope

The other thing with those names is you can't comment about things in hindsight. You're in the firing line and open to criticism, it might not be so easy when the shoe is on the other foot. A few of them are genuinely good analysts, others I wonder how well they would go actually having to coach sides.
Spot on. Even as an assistant their job could be on the line at any time.

The only time Ennis would go for a full time coaching role is if he got speared from fox. It’s actually part of the reason of why there are some average coaches out there. A lot of the great footy minds get plush jobs in the media on good coin and are happy doing that

The football brain amongst former players is Cameron Smith. He would be perfect with attacking consultancy at the Dogs -but he wouldn’t come cheap. We suck big time with scoring points. Everyone keeps worrying about our defence. Fair point, but if you can’t rack up scores, we are wasting our time.

Experience is one side of the argument. Having success with that experience is critical. That rules Furner and a few others out.
I don't want either tbh, I'd give Potter a go this year.

But whatever Gus thinks is best.

Why wait, appoint a new full-time coach now.
Talk about Barrett getting the punt in round 10 this season starting before last season ended
There's only two real options. Green or Flanagan and I feel they've also known Barrett's fate.
Get in now, get the players on board or fuck off.
New coach, new fitness regime and fuck off all those hangers on you see in the background in the coaches box.
All this should've started yesterday!!

Flanagan is the experienced no nonsense coach we need atm.

We need a coach who can sort out the mess we are in. We need someone who at some level can stand up to Gus. Flanagan is the only one on the list that I believe is capable of that.

He will have contractual issues to sort out at both the Dragons and Fox. But within a few weeks I think he could be out head coach.

I think he will work this year out with the current assistant coaches. Before a coaching overhaul before 2023.

I would love to see Ennis & Noddy come in as his assistant coaches.
Not sure if it's me but I'm trying to imagine Noddy as a coach with that voice of his barking orders and the players not listening to him :tearsofjoy:

You do realise we are only 6 points out of the top 8?

Everyone here seems to think coaching was the issue, so if that’s proven true why can’t we make the top 8 with a different coach?
I’m very curious to see how these clowns are going to perform under a new coach i believe it was 50 /50 most of these players are rubbish and a also believe Barrett was a shit coach

The club needs to take it's time and settle on the right coach moving forward. It does need to be announced before the end of the season though otherwise recruitment for next year will be a shit fight.

I do not think the only issue was the coaching, Jackson as captain is another one. It was a decision that Baz was still supporting, but for us to have a significant improvement we need someone to motivate the team during the game, it is obvious that Jackson cannot do that. We have had 3 coaches since Jackson was appointed captain. Des, Pay and Baz.

Move JAC to fullback and put his talking to better use.

Probably financial reasons. We're paying out Barrett so the club probably doesn't want to fork out money on a new coach for a season that's pretty much gone at this point. Dufty and JMK probably won't be here next year so we'll have to start again re combinations in the pre season anyway

This club has been going down the gurgler since the pc appointment of grimace from new Zealand.
Money wasted on rubbish players and letting go of players that walk into a Melbourne first grade team.

I would consider bringing in Michael Potter from Mounties, and sending Furner as coach of Mounties.
A new assistant coach could be recruited.
That might solve a few major problems.

Because a decent coach wouldnt take the job now. He would want a say in the roster moving forward and make a fresh start next year. The majority of the fitness stuff is done in the off season

Plus it will take at least month to conduct interviews and make a decision.

He may have some input regarding style of play and perhaps team selections later in the year but he would spend most of the time on recruitment and retention. Also working out the shortcomings in relation to the previous offseason considering we look so unfit

As a very specific assistant coach working with our play makers I think he will work well.

Noddy isn’t head coach material, neither is Ennis but both of them have good football IQ

There’s a reason Potter is coaching Mounties & not our NSW Cup side; not held in the highest regard in rugby league circles.
