Same here.Back when we had Dean Pay & then T Baz as coach I used to get excited about guys like Smith coming onto the market. Now we have a proper coach it is more about the player fitting our system for me.
Same here.
I wouldn't have sneezed at Gutho coming here, but I am not disappointed now after missing out.
It wouldn't be enough for him. He'd put that into the pokiesOnly if it’s for 400k
Both Gutho and Paps are a game away from another serious season ending injuryI get you - the way you say "missing out"!
But it feels like a salary cap blessing now, so we can chase a younger, faster player who has more longevity at the top of their game.
Can't say who that is but Gutho looked slow and real banged up at times last year.
Same deal for Cheese, who busted his guts for the Storm & then fell apart at the Chooks.
These are NOT the kind of players we want to be signing.
Prefer to retain promising incumbent Dogs and spend money where it's really gonna make a difference.
And as for Paps ....(I'm concerned he could be another expensive injury problem) ...but he does have big talent.
Dont sit on the fence. Yes! or No!
Definitely not that ship has sailed and he’s a has been and never will be againBrandon Smith’s future at the Roosters looks to be coming to an end, with the gun hooker revealing he’s “not really in a rush” to sit down with NRL rivals.
It comes amid a report from The Daily Telegraph, revealing rival clubs have reportedly been approached by the Tricolours to gauge their interest in Smith’s services.
The 28-year-old is contracted until the end of the 2025 season, meaning he’s free to sit down with prospective clubs regarding a move for the 2026 season.
As it stands, he’s sidelined until the middle of next year after he went under the knife on his knee, suffering a brutal MCL and ACL injury to close out the regular season.
Smith’s earning a reported $900,000 per-season, but has battled with injuries and form during his time at the Roosters.
Speaking on James Graham’s The Bye Round podcast, Smith opened up on his current contract situation.
“My manager told me when do you want me to talk to other clubs and I just said I am not really in a rush at the moment,” Smith said.
“Usually you sign a contract for security … in case pre-season you get injured or something happens like that. With me, I am already injured.
“I don’t have a risk of being reinjured. So I just told them to wait it out, don’t talk to anyone yet and I want to go back to training and get my knee right.”
“I don’t want to go anywhere and my partner is well entrenched in the club. Ideally I would like to stay but the game of rugby league doesn’t always have the same opinions as yourself.”
Smith’s comments come after reports surfaced that Smith’s stay at the Roosters wouldn’t be extended past his current contract.

I actually think lock is his best position and he would really suit our style of play but also have a few reservations about him...
Oh and he's definitely not worth 900k!
Don"t want cheese , but we're not sweet for locks. Mann played great for the 2/3rd of the season he was on the park. Hayward and Salmon played above their weight but struggled when it mattered. Oloapu just missed a year and Ciro has played him as a half. Hopoi is a work in progress. Sitili filled in at lock when Rorters had injuries, he'll make our edge rotation one of the best so why try and make him a lock? Curran and King are being used as props. So a decent size, injury free, ball playing, hard running lock with great D, has no errors, can play 80 minutes, is not waiting on a second test result and can't dance to Sweet Caroline is all Ciro has to find. We're sweet for locks if oloapu comes good. Rotation of Mann, Hayward and Oloapu.
