Former Sydney Roosters winger Amos Roberts has delivered the ultimate insult to fans who once adored his every step, claiming the tri-colours faithful lacked the 'patriotism' of his new Wigan backers.

Yet to play a game for the Super League glamour club after being released by the Roosters, Roberts even said the Roosters received no advantage from playing at home due to a lack of atmosphere at the SFS.

"Nothing against the fans back home but sometimes it's like you're playing 13 against 13, but here (in England) I guess they are more into it," Roberts told English reporters.

"They are more patriotic about their team and it makes it more appealing."

Roberts signed a three-year deal with the Warriors after being released by the Roosters who were looking to create some breathing space in their salary cap.

On top of the significant boost his wallet got from the switch, the 28-year-old said vision of hoards of singing fans at Super League games had also convinced him to shift his young family to the other side of the world.

"It's the fans," Roberts said.

"I've watched a few matches involving some mates over here and the fans chant for the whole 80 minutes.

"It's pretty spectacular."

Roberts arrived in England a fortnight ago but the wrist he had surgically repaired late last year has kept him off the field to date.

The Warriors open their season against Wakefield on Sunday with Roberts saying he was hopeful of being cleared to play.

Another absurd title for an article.

Roberts didn't even single out the Roosters for one single comment.

He just said, "back home".

That could mean all NRL fans.

The ESL crowds are much, much better and fanatical, they just don't get anywhere near as many as the NRL do on a week to week basis.

he actually said that the tri colours fans lack patriotism

then he says that playing at sfs gave the roosters no advantage

so i would say he was talking about the rooters

I didn't see any quotes from him saying that in that article.

Surely if that is the title of title of their article and they have those quotes to back it up they would have used them.

But they likely didn't, probably just took things out of context as they always do and they probably took massive liberties with this article like they do the vast majority of others they write.

To be honest, I thinkthe same applies for al NRL fans.

Look at AFL and even A-league.

A 12,000 a-league crowd always out cheers a 30,000 NRL crowd

Who here in this thread was defending or sticking up for the Roosters?

All anyone said was that there were no direct quotes from Roberts talking about the Roosters specifically and that the title was very misleading.

Its funny to see some of our fans can't read or comprehend what someone writes in a post.

I think there are 2 important things here.
1 - The grounds the NRL uses are far too large and are devoide of atmosphere.
2 - If Amos bothered trying he might have gotten a few more cheers

Can read and can comprehend.
The article is completely correct in implying the roosters fans are not as "patriotic" as the roosters ones.

Read the first paragraph again professor. Or maybe you disagree with the journo and feel the rooster fans beat their UK counterparts.

I rate the hectik element of the bulldogs supporter base as worst than the rooster fans.
As a player I would be turned off
