With the news today of BK ready to sign an extended 1 yr deal at the club...it has made me think that over the years, we have had some great halfbacks play for the mighty blue and white...from Mortimer to BK and the years in between...who was your favourite halfback? who do you think was the most influential and who do you wish had stayed a bulldog....for me without a doubt it had to be Brent Sherwin....while in the number 7 he was my favourite player...a great halfback...and was really influential in 2004...had great link up plays with his wingers..I dont think any1 can ever forget the combination he had with Hazem...those little grubbers into the ingoal....and he also put it on ElMasri's chest for that try in the grand final....it was a shame he went to England....but I still think we had him when he was at his peak.....

Shifty was an absolute champion. From when i first started supporting the doggies in 99' up until he left in 07, he was my favourite player full stop. In his heyday, he had incredible skills and ball placement ability.

Legend.

Turvey... the best without a doubt.

Look how many premierships we won with him at half-back...

1980, 1984, 1985,

You can even throw in 1988 (even though he came off the bench with little time remaining) ...

and that's just with Canterbury...

Throw in 9 Tests for Australia.. 8 caps for NSW .... Shifty could only dream of achieving so much

x1 million

I reckon Shifty was the best H/B we ever had and in his heyday I place him being 2nd only to Johns

Sherwin would of been a NSW rep if he didn't have Andrew Johns to compete with.

Can't argue with that, but in my life-time (which began in 88') I'd have to go Sherwin.

Same with me...was born in 86...so Shifty was the best I've seen....he wuld have played a heap of reps game..but was in era wen Andrew Johns was at his peak...still...Shifty was the best we've had in the past 20 yrs....such a shame...after the 2004 grand final wen the club went downhill...there was rumours around that his performance was affected due to Anasta sleeping with his wife...not to sure if that was true...but his form did dip considerably

W who do you wish had stayed a bulldog
this was an obvious allusion to thurston. i wish we kept him. he had the potential to be the greatest ever bulldog, never mind #7.

turvey was the greatest hands down

Those of us born before the 80's will generally pick Turvey Mortimer and the guys younger than that will pick Sherwin.

In this order

1) Mortimer - By far our best EVER.
2) Shifty - Close second, if not for Johns he would have played for NSW and AUS.
3) Polla-Mounter - loved this bloke.

Turvey was 1 of the greats...for us and the blues...Sherwin was my fav halfback...but my fav player was Terry Lamb...he came to my school wen i was in kindergarden and that is why i started supporting the dogs!!

Sherwin would not have played for NSW let alone australia tbh

Good player for a few years for us though.

He was called in to the blues squad in 2003 to cover for Johns.

Tricky Trindall and Duncan McRae weren't the best... but didn't do too bad back in the late 90s...

For me its Shifty....yeah I am old enough to remember Tim Pickup :p,
he was before Turvey for those young ones out there :p

When Shifty was on.....it was a Sure Win....... the team lived and
died on the back of how he played in 04....... at his best, he
was sheer brilliant....... Kicking the ball out from 20 metre restarts
should be named in his honour :p :p

Turvey...... yeah, a great competitor, and a true legend.... he would
be a very close second...... one of the top 5 halfbacks of all time.....

HE was a genius at doing that....I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY MORE TEAMS DONT DO THIS???
Its called an OPTIONAL 20 Metre RESTART....i think he learnt that off sticky....Any1 rate Rickey wen he was with us?
