The energy in 1kg of hydrogen is about the same as 3kg of petrol so an explosion would be about 3 times a large, but vessels could be 3 times smaller. How would that go in a crash situation with a hydrogen drive through the motor of the vehicle?
If stored as ammonia, it is not flammable at all.
