That's all that's on the news right now, may as well discuss it here.

Traditionally, I've been a Labor voter, and yes there has been the occasional year where I would vote for Liberal...however this year, I simply cannot vote Labor. I don't trust Bill Shorten managing our economy after the last disaster we had when Labor ran it.

Furthermore, they criticize Liberal's housing policy before going on board and equaling it.

This campaign is getting very dirty and the latest newspoll has Labor leading meaning that unless there is some kind of political miracle, we'll be waking up on Sunday with a new PM!

I’m more interested in each party’s policies around negative gearing and superannuation. I think people will vote towards their interests and this could come incredibly close

Not a fan of Shorten but based on the Liberals cynical campaign and Labor's policies, Labor seem the readier party to govern.

I usually vote for a small parties and put the big ones last. So the decision for me really comes down to who I'll put second last and who I'll put last.

I'm leaning toward Labor last. Liberals have been a complete mess lately and they've done some really stupid things, but something isn't right about Shorten. He's just not human.

I put the Science Party first, Liberal Democrats second and anything else is just a mix of how I feel on the day.

You have to be careful when looking at a party at face value, especially when it comes to the smaller parties. For example, the Sustainable Party. Many vote for them due to environmental issues not realising that the "sustainable" in their name is about population, not environment. They're primarily an anti-immigration party.

Also, I voted for the Sex Party and they didn't even give me any sex. Fortunately they've now changed their name to the Reason Party.

I like to give the small parties a vote too, but will definitely vote for Liberal. Labor won't get a vote at all from me.

Feel for us in Queensland. We have Palmer, Anning, Hansen, Malcolm Roberts and the fat sex tourist who looks like Peter Griffin (Katter is seemingly normal by comparison). (And this is before you note that every local council is SE QLD is corrupt as fuck).

I voted the first day I could, and have been tying to avoid the coverage as much as possible, but Palmer, spending more than everyone else combined (when you don't pay your bills you can afford to do so I suppose) makes this difficult. Lobby groups seem to be more prominent this time around - ACTU, Get up, those anti abortion groups that think Shorten is coming for 9 month old fetuses etc... and of course, the biggest lobbyist of all - Rupert fucking Murdoch.

I have no major beef with Shorten, but clearly he was not the best choice, and is quite unpopular with the electorate (despite a little bot of clawing back of late). With someone more popular this would be another Kevin07 situation.

Working out who to put last seems to be the hardest jobs of all, when the majority of people on each ballot paper are people you completely dislike.

As for Shorten, he's not a good choice. We SHOULD be voting for the party / local rep who will do best for the country, but with personality politics only getting worse/stronger in the social media era, it is naive to think he's not a drain on the party.

Many small parties pick up votes just for having a confusing name - the Liberal Democrats have been getting away with that for years.

Mate Clive Palmer might go alright in government. I like to think of Australia as a business, so astute businessmen should be in amongst the decisions. I don’t know much about palmers business sense but he’s rich isn’t he? Could be our Donald Trump (in terms of taxes etc)

it does suck that politics seem to get exemptions to both No Junk Mail and do not call registers.

Palmer is in politics for one person - Clive Palmer.

(Ok, i'm not naive to think that a of of them are in it for the self interest - but he stands to gain the most financially).

Plus Palmer has already had one term in parliament, before pretty much every one of his senators quit the party for various reasons (Lazarus, Lambie). I find the guy to be quite unhinged (again - that's probably on for he pre-requisite for being a politician sometimes :grinning: ).

I guess after the election, life will go on. Come meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Anyone able to give an unbiased quick run-down of what policies both parties are pushing?

I think Clive Palmer wants to win, less tax in regional areas sounds good.

Unbiased information obviously difficult to come by. You would have read both the Guardian and the Murdoch stuff to try and get some sort of semblance of balance.

The ABC for last few elections have had this: https://votecompass.abc.net.au/

Basically they ask you a bunch of questions (whether you agree or disagree on around 30 different policy areas from the environment to taxation to immigration etc), and it will map which party you are closest to.

Here was mine (I note that it still includes One NAtion, even though I think Palmer has passed them in the polls). I must admit I didn't really think too hard abut each answer, so if I took it more seriously, not sure where it may have moved it. It's not scientific, but it's better than the Telegraph :grinning:
