Only if frauds like Thommo are playing. Most ESL players are barely NSW cup standard. Thommo was considered elite and he is not.
Wasn’t long ago that ESL St Helens beat that team full of your Samoan’s superstars namely Penrith and England embarrassed your national team of Samoa in the World Cup, BTW I was at both games and couldn’t watch them for laughing !!

Bro imagine me being okonbors manager and arching up at Gus.
My point is okonbor has done more than "Luke Thompson" in the past few years.

Finding talent out of ESL takes top level scouting. Not many clubs have been able to do it, only Barge-Arse bros, Graham and Widdop come to mind outside of the Raiders scouting.

Raiders are probably the best of any NRL club at identifying English players but then there is the home sick factor which is also a massive risk: Bateman, Hodgson, Williams, Whitehead.

It was down to Luke and only Luke that he has managed to get himself back on the field, if you remember Gus the foot specialist within an hour of his injury said he will be out all season and has repeatedly stated it numerous times since !, then when they have no option to select him they start him against an in form Knights team and feed him to the Wolves
So the club physios, doctors, trainers etc did nothing to assist Thompson get back on to the field - seems odd given the level of support compassion shown by the club the previous 12 months.

Your right, the depth of talent within the NRL is incredible, just look at the recent World Cup, Australia could have entered 4 teams and all of them would have made the semi finals but what you get with the northern English players is tough hard bastards who would run through brick walls and that’s about it

Thommo not being re-signed isn’t a massive suprise. Signed him on big coin. Hasn’t delivered at all. Played what 5 games in 18 months. Hit the road Jack.

In terms of development would the better English players - mainly forwards - be in a stronger position if they tried their luck in Australia earlier - some sort of trade situation where senior Australian players went to England as a swap for the English - might make the SL stronger long term n be better for international RL

If I was Luke I would have accepted the big offer from Wigan, I can’t see him staying at the dogs it’s a shambles/ joke
No good staying in the NRL and playing for west tigers or St George etc then two also are a shit show
Why start him two weeks ago when he hasn’t played all year, fed to the wolves in my option, the clubs clueless
Lol Luke is a massive part of the reason we are a shambles/joke as you put it he wouldn’t get another contract in an NRL side because he is shit.

@Actros I can tell you’re worked up & defensive of Luke as I have been also. I’ve butted heads with posters I genuinely respect like Nate in my defense of Luke.

I’ve liked your posts and respected them. You’ve been patient with the dumb questions such as the senile old lady who frequently posts asking what Luke had for breakfast etc but you’re dirty now and somehow blaming a football manager that would easily get a life contract in the ESL, a comp that sits between our reserve grade side and the wooden spooners in NRL. We pay Gus to produce results and he needs players on the field, particularly the highly paid ones. World club challenges really aren’t a gauge due to so many factors.

I am positive Luke hasn’t reached anywhere his potential with us. Not his fault and not ours but if you’re paying that sort of money in any business, let alone one with a salary cap you need someone on the field earning that salary.

I honestly wish Luke all the best in the future but if he’s after big money and trophies he’s best in England freezing his arse off

I’ve watched every bulldogs game in the last 5 years, I’ve even watched some live and your right, I was out of order with some of my comments, I’ve never posted anything negative of this forum, never had a go at player or manager and we’ve had a few, I do apologise if I have offended anyone on here, ultimately it’s Luke that wears the shirt and it’s down to him that he hasn’t been good enough over his time at the club

No need to apologise at all mate. This is a forum where we can all express our opinions and vent also. Luke came to the club at the worst possible time. We needed prime Luke with those big runs and athleticism but unfortunately for all of us covid and injuries happened. I honestly expected more when Luke was on the field but also know what it’s like playing busted

You've always conducted yourself with integrity and we've appreciated your candidacy and insight with questions many have asked of you about the situation with Luke. There will always be differing opinions on The Kennel. It's that kind of forum...

Let the cards fall where they may with Thommo's stint with the Bulldogs and his footy future :grinning: Keep well.
