My uncle on the sunny coast bags them and freezes them alive.

Did socialist concepts save capitalist western economies?

I was looking through the raft of programs and incentives the government put in place or accelerated as part of their aim to lessen the impact of the COVID virus on our economies and businesses and companies. You can see the list here - COVID-19 government assistance for business | business.gov.au

I’ll clarify that I agree with these incentives and that they were indeed needed during this time and I’m happy to pay taxes to pay for these programs into the future as I can see the benefits they brought about.

But I can’t help thinking that these programs are cemented in the socialist concept that we all pay for those in need. The only difference I can see is that these measures are aimed at business and companies rather than a human demographic. Let’s call it welfare for business.

I find it intriguing that for all its much vaunted strength and power and resilience, capitalism was brought to its knees by a virus and the only way to save capitalist economies was to embrace socialist concepts. Perhaps that was China’s goal to show us how fragile our belief in capitalism can be?

And if indeed socialism saved us, can we celebrate it or would that trigger too many conservative pundits out there who hang anyone even mentioning it?

Jobkeeper was thought of by Labor and the unions. They took it to morrisson and frydenberg multiple times, as the government initially rejected it. But eventually they accepted the need for it given the unknowns of covid and its impact on life.

In September Labor again approached the government for changes to jobkeeper but these changes were completely rejected and jobkeeper stayed as it was initially brought in.

Jobkeeper was an emergency thought bubble so it was never perfect from the get go, it needed adjusting down the track but the lack of changes to it reflect negatively on the government.

On the coronavirus vaccine rollout, we're in the dark while governments bicker
To add further cause for concern it seems Germany and Canada are stopping the use of the AZ vaccine and choosing Pfizer instead.

Just for people under 60. Unfortunately based on the latest data, it looks like people under 55 using the AZ vaccine have around a 1 in 200,000 chance of death.

So after initially promising 100 million vaccines in 100 days, Biden is upping that to 200 million doses in 100 days after they already achieved their initial target.

Meanwhile here we've only delivered 600,000 doses when 4 million was promised by the end of March. And again the Feds are blaming the states and the states are providing evidence that they haven't been given the doses

The importance of rolling out the vaccines on time is to avoid any mutations that may not be affected by the vaccine

And thee are actually frontline health workers, working with Covid patients who are still not vaccinated.
