That bloke is very reliable. Is rarely wrong with rumours. His batting average is up there with Bradman.
Lol sauce or it didn't happen.

Seriously, why would Burton possibly want to stay when he could have a clear path to first grade at a club which is on the rise? Makes no sense.

So much like our own consistent hitters, they accurately relay what their source on the inside tells them. Even with the reliable ones I'd tend to take stuff that can't be proven with a grain of salt... That's when the spin comes out

So your saying that it's a revelation that someone didn't accept the first offer put to them... :astonished:..

So I must have been doing wrong all these years.. I've never once haggled or tried to get a better deal...:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::yum::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:.

Gotta remember we were hot trash as an organisation very very very recently and hes been there for 3-4 years, as a 20 year old thats quite long time. Theres also possibility that he actually backs himself to take Luai's spot. Not to mention Panthers are arguably the best team in the comp.

There was that report of the Sharks coming in with that $600k offer so if that was true it would make sense for Burton to knock us back and ask for and increased offer.

the Panthers, much like the Eels, should be a consistent powerhouse in the league considering their junior base, the passion for the game in Western Sydney, and the lower cost of living in the west... and yet, in over 50 seasons competing, they have a grand total of 2 premierships

they had a mess of a salary cap and a dire financial state when they brought Gould in who then focused on dispensing with the most toxic assets on their salary cap (Moylan, Lewis, Jennings), bringing in new sponsors and partners, and focusing on local junior development

and now that they begin to reap the benefits of their position (ie. first pick of the best up and coming players from one of the biggest junior RL nurseries), they cry foul that they cannot keep every player

it would be a more believable whinge if they lost their captain or their star player and not a 20 year old bench player that has only played 6 FG games and has 2 Origin players ahead of him in the pecking order... in fact, that was the very excuse the Roosters used when they pinched Nate Myles from us (ie. they could provide him greater FG opportunity)

Yes, definitely possible we had to up the ante to compete.....but the screenshot gave me the impression the poster thought Burton was keen on staying put....called us vultures....as if we were swooping in on them. Silly to think Burton wouldn't be keen to look elsewhere if there was a clear path to first grade.

At the right price and the right term Whare wouldn't be bad for depth - solid defender which is what good team's are built on & he would keep the pressure on the likes of DWZ, Meaney, Crichton etc for those positions up for grabs. Competition for spots in a team brings out the best in players.
I think Whare should be Panthers starting right centre with Staines outside him. Great defender with good hands, just have him be the link man to Staines. To'o on the other wing. Then they could still use Naden as a bench player and bring him onto his prefered left centre position by taking off Edwards and giving Crichton more time at fullback to see how he goes

Honestly they are right, they deserve compo for the talent they bring through. Just because everyone else has copped the lost of junior talent doesnt mean it should continue without change. There should be incentive for teams to develop the youth, and part of the incentive is reward if they cant be retained.

Yeah its hard to tell what he meant by vultures. Panthers really had no bargaining power besides staying loyal.

It doesn't matter what we have been in recent times. We have money to spend now, have a highly regarded coach and are definitely on the rise. I think Burton would have the sense to see that. Panthers were the best team in the comp this year, no doubt.....but a lot can change in a year. I don't think Cleary is a great coach, tbh. We'll see over the next few years just how much influence Barrett had. In any case, unseating a very good half like Luai who proved to be a weapon this year and helped lead his team to a grand final would be no easy task. Burton would have been mad to stay.

Whare is a class centre but he will be 31 next year and taking on an unwanted player simply to fast track Burton's release is wrong... pay Burton's salary for 2021 as a transfer fee to Penrith and everyone can move on

We should be campaigning with Penrith to get some kind of compo system in place because we are planning on being a development club so its only a matter of time till it happens to us.

We did lose our captain and risk losing one star and the prop who was taking the captain's place in the 17.

Though other teams fans explaining their own hurt over losing players backs ours up. It shows the fans across the game care when it happens.
