Next week looms as one of the most vital in Canterbury’s history.
A decision on coach Dean Pay’s future is expected to be made as early as next week as the Bulldogs look for some stability amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding their head coach. Pay’s contract ends at the end of the year and with just one win to start the year the pressure is mounting even if their roster is inferior.
There is plenty of pressure building off the field too for the Bulldogs who are desperate to add some marquee players to their squad.
The club is also in discussions with a handful of companies regarding a major sponsor.
The Bulldogs are the only team without a front of jersey sponsor and want to have an outcome either way next week.
Canterbury are also hoping to get an answer from Canberra star Nick Cotric next week. Cotric’s team are pushing for a five-year deal to secure the 21-year-old.
The Bulldogs are also eyeing some potential castaways from the Broncos who may be forced to move some players on.
In some good news for the club, they have secured back-rower Raymond Faitala-Mariner for another two years.

If the board was worth their salt they would pull the same move we did with Des and sign the coach a year out and then negotiate a release on the last year.Doesn't make sense waiting until next year for better off-contract coaches, since when do contracts mean anything?
Why does it have to be both and not just one? as per 100% of other coaches in the entire history of NRL.What if we give the Walker bro’s a chance?
Complete diff direction.
So what's happening with DWZ and Smith? Are they trying to offload one of them?Been hearing Between Anthony griffin and Shaun Wayne as head coach Michael ennis as assistant coach. Nick Citric is a done deal. Also Alex Johnston is done deal. Souths are offloading Gagai for JAC.
Harry grant is a done deal as tigers can’t match $500k from the bulldogs.
Also Lachlan Lewis is off to Melbourne a player swap with one of there forwards.
Foran is getting a 1 year extension on around 500k. Elliot is off to st George on $650k.
Assistant coaches with Wane as head coach in 2021 should definitely change our boring style of play. What if we give the Walker bro’s a chance?
Complete diff direction.
If you make 5-6 predictions you might get at least one right. If this is anything near the mark WOW
Sign a year out yes maybe but early release might rely on disgruntlement of said coach though - Des and Scott Penn had fallen out at the time, even before the Beagles won the comp in 2011. They didn’t speak for 7 years until Des was looking for a job after leaving Belmore. So you’ve gotta have some luck and timing as well as some ‘salt’.If the board was worth their salt they would pull the same move we did with Des and sign the coach a year out and then negotiate a release on the last year.
True but signing a year early certainly adds some friction to things and increases the chances of getting released.Sign a year out yes maybe but early release might rely on disgruntlement of said coach though - Des and Scott Penn had fallen out at the time, even before the Beagles won the comp in 2011. Haha for sure, I better clear it up that I don’t expect any to come off, but still wow hahaIf you make 5-6 predictions you might get at least one right.
Depends on your opinion of playing better,we scoring any more points on his side of the field? Are we conceding less points? What’s your idea of improvement?Well he's playing a lot better then what he was before he got dropped last year. If you're going to give Pay shit for when players go backwards you have to give Pay credit when they improve. COntrACT YEaR.
Coming 16th ...Depends on your opinion of playing better,we scoring any more points on his side of the field? Are we conceding less points? What’s your idea of improvement?
Joe the butcher at Woolworths could not do a worse job in 3 years it has taken Pay to take us from a poor side to an even poorer sideWhich makes sense to me.
Holbrook and Fitzgibbon are both available in 2022 for example - not that Holbrook is setting the world on fire so far but early days. I hope it’s not Bennett nor Flanagan and don’t think Bellamy would come. Who else is available for ‘22 - I haven’t checked.
I’d like to see @Nasheed given the chance to prove that anyone could do a job like Pay.Joe the butcher at Woolworths could not do a worse job in 3 years it has taken Pay to take us from a poor side to an even poorer side
