And we lost the week before because we bombed a million chances, why the key change then?
Wakeham the previous week had a blinder in reserves and deserved his opportunity. That's all you could ask for with players knocking at the door. Leave the coach with no option but to pick you. Wakeham did that.

Yes, but it was one game and only 2 games into an NRL season. You don't make a key change after only 2 games and if you do then you better hope it comes off. It didn't.

It’s been five years since des left and we are still being told to be patient… appointing the Andersons was the worst thing we done and to think people on here supported them
We need to move on. The damage was done by 2 previous Boards. Both Boards have been shown up and now we try and clean up all the mess created by those Boards.

Actually he made a change after Averillo has been our #7 for over a year (give or take a few games) and given first chance this year and he hasn't really progressed. This isn't an Averillo bash up btw. I like the kid. Mate we need to try something and Barrett did that and got instant success with Wakeham scoring and being involved in the other. Thought he defended well also. He got pretty beaten up with a headclash and made it back on the field which says alot. Until that moment he was solid and deserves equal opportunity to prove himself as Averillo had then let's judge whether Barrett has made the right changes, not after just one game and not after a one point loss.

Also, don't forget what really cost us in the end, an easy kick Burton missed.

Jake would never have made one iota of difference to what happened on that field yesterday.

The problems are much more entrenched than the 7. The main problem is 9. There is no creativity or any guile in bringing the forwards onto the ball or choosing which side has short numbers etc.

The 6 isn't creating either and Jacko is not a distributing lock and Waddell hogs the ball from the centre and wing. We give away too much possession with discipline which refs one-sidedly cane us for and panic with the ball bc we can't get the continuity with lack of sustained possession in a newly formed team.

Wakeham offered more than Avo has in his short first stint and we looked like we could execute and the team suffered momentum when he went off. Then it all fell apart.
Good assessment.
So long as jmk is at 9 our attack will struggle even if we have Nathan cleary as a 7. He's passing game is atrocious from dh and he has this obsession with standing upright before passing

Here’s a stat. Every try we have conceded this year has been on our right edge/wing. All 6 of them

Dont forget every team strongest offensive edge is their left side so I would think you would find almost every teams stats are worst on right edge defensively

Okunbor responsible for about 4. I see some guy pointed out that Burns was tripped by brad parker so i will take that one off but that pass from foran and set play from manly was very well played, good decoys from davey and timed runs on parker, turbo linking out the back to deliver that pass and foran went the best option. Still though we have the second best defense in the nrl, its a minor worry and it shouldn’t be a huge deal.

Not us. 3 of our tries in the right and 2 in the middle.

If we had pangai playing left edge we would have 2 or 3 tries down that side. He makes such a good decoy in good ball plus you can get him to isolate a half close to the line and just barge over himself. He should be on the edge. In fact he would have definitely scored one last week and this week from carries waddell had close to the line where he was stopped short

but instead we have Waddell who's "produced career best ratings over the past couple of weeks" (I love you Gus but JMK and Waddell are 2 of the worst players in the NRL in their positions) who offers absolutely no attacking threat on an edge. Yeah he can tackle, yeah he can make run metres. This isn't what the second row position is about. To make it even worse our best 2 attacking options in our team are outside him and he breaks down the attack as soon as he receives the ball. It was also a glaring issue against the Broncos. Again, we find ourselves sitting around for next years recruits to come...

There was no instant success, the team went backwards. Baz had months to work out what he was going to do yet to go back on it after just 2 games is laughable.

Lol he wasn’t involved in the 2nd try, he simply passed the ball to dufty, which was a bad pass, putting dufty under pressure, dufty had to check and change direction, then put a great kick in.
First try was good effort, but it was pure luck, so there was no “traditional halfback “ plays there.

Round 3 saw Trent absolutely bottle it and throw away all the positives we saw in the earlier 2 rounds by disgracefully dropping Jake only 2 games into the season. Nothing but pure panic all because our edges didn't ice the numerous chances we created the previous week in round 2.

Dropped from THIRD for line breaks to SIXTH with us only creating ONE tonight.
Dropped from SIXTH for line break assists to SEVENTH with us only creating 2 more than the worst team.
Dropped from THIRD for line engaged to FIFTH.
Dropped from SEVENTH for support runs to ELEVENTH.
Increased from SECOND for decoy runs to FIRST.
Dropped from FIRST for run metres to FOURTH.
Dropped from SIXTH for post contact metres to EIGTH.
Dropped from SECOND for offloads to SIXTH.
Dropped from EIGTH for missed tackles to NINTH.

Clear drop off in where we were at during the first 2 rounds, both with the eye test and on paper. Weather is not an excuse as we played in equally bad if not worse conditions against the cowboys a who are currently SECOND and BEAT them. Lack of any sort of combination play tonight and overall were just a shambles in terms of organisation and direction. Biggest concern was Burton, he was basically strangled out of the game and got junk ball towards the end of the set to kick it or aimlessly run it. The chemistry between him and Wakeham was non existent, JMK was also back to his uncontrolled best..again, chemistry?

Burton had 42 touches today and 5 runs. Time in possession 26.08m.
Round 2 he had 57 touches and 13 runs. Time in possession 34.48m.
Round 1 he had 56 touches and 9 runs. Time in possession 29.29m.

As you can see numbers are well down even when you consider the drop in possession. Wakeham handled the ball 40 times in only 66 minutes for comparison. Burton also kicked the ball with 13 of those possessions, so he kicked with almost a THIRD of his touches. Unfortunately round 3 was a clear step backwards for both the team and individuals. I was angry tonight, something i didn't feel the previous 2 weeks. i I will pass on this weeks Psychologist's bill to the club.
Thanks for all the stats. You forgot the fact we played the teams that came 14th and 15th last season in the first 2 weeks v the team that ran 4th last year in round 3.

Averillo been in team nearly 2 years now and they have had the worst attack both years and won fuck all games of you think he shouldn’t have been dropped you are kidding yourself. Both averillo and okunbor have them selves to blame for being dropped cause they haven’t performed up to first grade standard for a long time.

What Baz is highlighting and he did this last year by rotating the halves is that the club does not have a FG half on the books. After signing Burto, Baz said he will need all the support he can and will need time. Nek minute Burto expected to carry the team. We need an old steady and experience half and take the focus away from Burto.
Cronk said as much last night on Fox, need to keep tweaking the 7 until we find the best fit/balance.
Sadly, none of what we have look ideal.
