Hey boys, possibly looking into a ute to drive mainy for general driving, going beach, towing trailer/jetski etc

Not for off road but something with abit of grunt but not superfast or that will guzzle petrol.

Now a few boys said stay away from ford rangers like the wildtraks/raptors, they said they have alot of transmission/gearbox problems, but i see them everywhere on the road, or am i missing something?

They said buy a hilux, there more reliable and hold there value. Maybe a Hilux rogue is what i should look at?

What about the amaroks? Are they reliable good cars?

Another thing don't go buy a ranger just because all your friends and cousins have one.

I used to own a 1993 hilux.
Never had a problem with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's still running to this day?

It all depends how you drive them i look at a forum for Rangers pretty frequently my mate has a 2014 Ranger clutch is all he's done , on the forum it looks to me like if your slack on servicing and flog them every drive you'll have problems , one of them was saying he had a Hilux for work and it sucked down a lot of fuel,, only hearsay. I don't know much about the 5 cylinder engines but the EGR systems are a problem if you don't keep maintenence up to them , i swap my EGR cooler every timing belt and prevents a lot of serious problems

Got both, hilux ain’t much chop in terms of power but it’s reliable. I don’t have the new ranger but from 2023 ranger merged with Volkswagen so you’re basically buying a Amarok rebadged. Bt50 is great, now it’s an Isuzu engine under neath.

Get an Amarok then you can visit me when it dies haha. Nah bur seriously, iv been in the motor industry for 12 years (sales and mechanic)

- Hilux from the early 2000s to current have always had fuelling issues. Injectors and fuel rails fucking out. (TDI injectors start at 1k+ a pop)

-Rangers have shit gearboxes

-Isuzu make the best engine and it's been the same for a number of years. Not sure if it still applies but they had a b10 rating. The new ones have turbos fucking out left and right though since they changed manufacturers.

- Mazda, read above^^^. Same running gear as isuzu with a nicer body slapped ontop

- VW amarok has a bad rep but honestly is my pick of the bunch. Bulletproof engines and the only issue I know of is the V6 DPF is poorly designed and can struggle to regen on its own. (Iv been a VW & Audi specialist mechanic for 5 years now). It will be dearer to service aswell unless you find an independent mechanic. I'm here if you need....

- tritons I know fuck all about. Nobody I know has owned one or even considered it

"Ranger VS Hilux"

It's like you're trying to start a war.

Honestly though, Hilux is the better of the two. But there's other decent options. Isuzu is great. Excellent towing, and reliable as. Can't drive up a hill faster than 40 though.

If you're not opposed to Chinese brands, LDV have a really decent Ute.
