I think Jacques is a no-brainer with his unrelenting runs in first class. Watson needs to be there to bolster our bowling, Symonds just simply isn't a good enough bowler and too inconsistent with the bat. Johnson I think adds more to the mix, Tait is too similar to Lee. And Macgill is a tough choice, but i think he's earned it.

Jaques is a pretty much a certainty and will tell why he should be in the selectors minds as the ideal replacement for Langer. I also rate Chris Rogers as he is an up and comer. I choose Voges as he is brilliant in the field and can get the runs in quick timing and a good all rounder. I also have chose Hilfenhaus as a guy who can give more variety in the bowling and can swing the ball as well. Macca is there to replace warne and is our 2nd best spinner.

I chose Watson at number 6 because with Warne and McGrath retired, our team would be stronger with a 5th bowler. Australia was able to win with 4 specialist bowlers because they had the calibre of these two guys.

On the same token, Watson keeps the batting list to 6 specialist batsmen. So no real loss there. He is able a happy medium.

also my team is a massive batting line up because cam white is a batting machine and a better spinner than anyone else not including macdik

I've been browsing the BBC website and reading the cricket blogs and I can't believe how optimistic the Brits are regarding the 2009 Ashes series.

Many even think that they should start favourites and that they are a good chance of winning without the retirees.

Silly fools. They're obviously ignorant when it comes to our domestic competition.

How can you say the selectors are stupid when the team they've picked has won so many matches on the trot... I do agree there are some strange decisions made.. but there is an old saying that says if it ain't broke... don't try to fix it.

As for post Warne, Langer, McGrath.... well I guess I would agree go with youth and try to build a team... best time to do it is now with all the stars and experience still in the side... I think it could be a great time to have a go and see what you come up with.

Here is a side I reckon I would want to see

1. Phil Jaques
2. Matt Hayden
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Michael Hussey
5. Michael Clarke
6. Andrew Symonds
7. Adam Gilchrist
8. Cameron White
9. Brett Lee
10. Stuart Clark
11. Mitchell Johnson

That is a decent side... with White the next incumbent to Warne as he is a decent spinner who is getting better every month and can bat reasonably well. Jaques is the obvious choice at number 1.

HOWEVER... this side could also come up... rather experimental I know, but considering Jaques hasn't been in the best of form for NSW, if the selectors want to try something different, then this could be the option gone for.

1. Matt Hayden
2. Michael Hussey
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Michael Clarke
5. Adam Voges
6. Shane Watson
7. Adam Gilchrist
8. Cameron White
9. Brett Lee
10. Stuart Clark
11. Mitchell Johnson

This side is more balanced to the first one, with Watson slightly stronger in the all rounder stakes than Symonds ATM, and Voges provides a strong hitter, as well as a spare bowler who is quite handy with being there to take a few overs and perhaps get a wicket along the way.

Yeah i've been thinking voges will get an opportunity come next summer.

Cam white has been in the selectors minds for a while and he will be more consistent than injury proned Shane Watson.

Johnson is the 1 i haven't really put my finger on i know that he can bowl very fast and has a very accurate arm but i may have to see more of him before i can rate him to be 1 of the main strike weapons for this Australian Team.

Yes I've seen Benny play... and I reckon he could be a gun.. and I'd love to see him and Clark bowl end to end, it would be sensational stuff.. but I also reckon he needs to carefully be put into the national side... he is a bit like Shaun Tait IMO... very good talent, but if we throw him in too early, we could destroy a very promising career.

It's great to have so many options and there are others coming out of the woodwork still too... I mean with Bracken can perform in the ODI arena, he could challenge for the 11 spot too... there are so many options, but we all have to realise, none of them is going to match Warne or McGrath ATM.

Yeah i have seen him play and i must say he is a player of the future as Richie said today and can swing the ball either way hopefully he gets a chance in the ODI's this season.

we are probally a bit lucky that the standard of the other teams is lower than ever while we go through our rebuilding phase

I think it is good cause the Australian Team has had a long year during 2006 and with the Zimbabwe Tour more than likely to be cancelled it would take a heavy workload off the player's shoulders and less touring and more focusing on this year's world cup.

I'd love to see this side for our KFC Twenty 20 Internationals.... just to try out some players

1. Phil Jaques
2. Adam Gilchrist
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Michael Hussey
5. Adam Voges
6. Michael Clarke
7. Andrew Symonds
8. Cameron White
9. Shaun Tait
10. Nathan Bracken
11. Ben Hilfenhaus

I reckon rest the rest and lets see how our up and comers fair on a big stage...in a short spell... ;)
