Rugby league can be a tough game.

Centre Jonathan Wright asked the Cronulla Sharks for a mid-year release to join the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

It was denied. He’s now been told his services are not required.

He is married with two young children, can’t find a club, and is unemployed.

Interesting that he wanted to join us mid season. I think there were a couple of rumours about this floating around

I hope things work out for him and his family. To be honest I don't know how he ever played first grade though and has had a good run working on the rugby league version of the penski file

Well he has canberra or super league
A lot of these guys have never had a real job, so wouldn't have a lot of great non-footy options to support their family.

ESL provides a good option. Pay is lower, but better than digging holes. Plus good opportunity to experience a different culture (although the north of England might not be everyone's cup of tea)...

So if he's not right for the sharks what's wrong with releasing wright to the bulldogs mid season? It's not right to make wright redundant it's just wrong.

Nice bloke but a fringe first grader at best. Fact is he should seriously be looking at life after footy.

It is a crappy situation for Jono but the Sharks obviously did not have Barba and M Brown locked in when he was denied his release.

Nature of the business, your spot is never guaranteed but clubs have to do what is best for them.

Jono is really average, but surely someone will pick him up for depth.

Sucks for him but the end of the day he has only got to do what most of us do and work

I would rather Wright than Brown tbh.

Brown is overall a much more complete player and although Wright is faster he crabs sideways too much lol
Wright can break tackles though...

Before stopping and jinking and getting tackled by someone else haha they both suck
True, and we are much better off without them now with Rona and Morris aha.

Was he still contracted?
If so not all bad for the bloke at least he still gets paid out the remainder of his contract.

We are so much better off that the Sharks didn't release him to us. Solid at best and feet for hands at worst, would prefer him to stay far far far away from our club.
