As long as Barrett comes in an does his best for the club and takes us in the right direction, which seems to be the case, then fuck the handshake and fuck Penrith..!! Do what you got to do Trent.

So we're supposed to not sign players who can't get a run in a top four team while we release an International player with two plus years left on his deal for nothing in return? Cool.. Sounds fair to me.

It was mentioned that Barret had a gentlemans agreement that he would not poach panthers players. My question is why should the club give a fuck about this stupid agreement?Does it concern us? Shouldn't Barrett be serving his employers interests? This effectively stops him from bringing Burton and other youngsters from the Panthers over to the Bulldogs. Club should tell him... F. YOU and your agreement, you work for us now... Go out and sign BURTON!
he is not employed by the dogs as yet, pretty simple. in business you dont burn bridges, never know what happens in the future.
The club can talk to players but Barrett has to have no contact and let it all be above board.

To be honest if I was Trent I'd not sign any panthers players either. Even insures they may publically want from other clubs. They employed Barrett and took him back after manly and have given him repeated employment so why would he screw that up? There's only so many job opportunities out there. And he's got one that's good to him.

let Burton walk. Let's try and get the field side from the eels if we want a young half.

Burton would be playing for canterbury if signed not for trent personally, georgeallis can go get in his ear and do all the dirty work and get him across. Didnt stop canberra doing the same to chn whilst still contracted to us.
Come november 1 baz can talk burtons ear off, suck a dick penrith!

Some clubs have always worked that way...Storm is one. Just pay cursory lip service to the players by giving them a game every now and again to let them know they have a chance and promise them the world, case in point the hooking position.

Yep . It is unclear too whether or not the Raiders were actually entitled to even ask CHN to join them if he was technically still contracted to us with still 2 1/2 years to go....

Unless there is a legally binding agreement or some sort of clause in his contract that disallows it, once he leaves he is a free agent and his own man. That would be like you or I leaving a place of employment to set up our own business and not being allowed to treat customers if they come to us of their own accord from our past employer....

If a players manager approaches the coach he would be entitled to sign them , that has nothing to do with the coach.

Source; https://www.nrl.com/news/2020/07/25/cleary-and-barrett-clear-the-air-on-recruitment/

"Head coach Ivan Cleary and his assistant Trent Barrett have set the boundaries in their working environment for the rest of season, in terms of any Panthers players looking to follow the Barrett to the Bulldogs in 2021.
Barrett, who signed a three-year deal with the Belmore club this week, has said he won't be talking about his new role until the end of the Panthers season this year.
But that won't stop speculation of which Panthers might look to join Barrett at the Bulldogs to continue, or even start, their NRL careers.
"It's very clear our relationship and the one moving forward – what's OK and what's not," Cleary said Saturday"

So there are boundaries, WTF are they? What exactly has our future coach actually agreed to do or not to do?

Fluff piece article by another 'quality' league journalist.

Just because Barrett has agreed not to approach players that does not mean that the club can approach players.

All this means is that Barrett cannot be involved in negotiations. He draws up a hitlist, club goes after it. SIMPLE.

Clearly would have to be the biggest hypocritical coach at present lol. Signed up to the tigers and screwed their roster. Said he was going no where then breaks his contract and heads of to Penrith lol. Set the boundaries my arse. Barrett would have Signed on to the dogs knowing what we expected from him regarding his contacts.

I'm ok with a handshake, as long as it's not a reach-around

Matt Burton's contract finishes after 2021 anyway. Teams are allowed to negotiate at the end of this season for 2022. If he's off contract it isn't poaching. No way he stays at the Panthers when he's 3rd string 6 right now.

Why would Georgeallis go and do the dirty work WHEN he probably isn't in the Bulldogs future plans or part of Barretts coaching staff come 2021? why be the bad guy and "rat" when he has aspirations of one day becoming a first-grade coach himself.
