Why I think we badly need a decent half.

Of all the pups coming through recently, Kiraz & Schoupp have been great.

Averillo is doing well at FB, and should only get better as he plays more games there along with a full off season at FB and hopefully a specialist FB coach

Hopefully Topine & Morrin cement spots in the 17 next season

BBO is heavily overrated here and is a jack of all trades...

Only HB who looks good and who is promising in the lower grades is Hayward

We have been through this over and over and over with experimental HB's through the years - Mbye, Averillo, Wakeham and BBO....It works in very rare cases, though these players haven't got it upstairs to successfully transition and lead a team around.

Hopefully Hayward comes up with the goods in a few years.
BBO has outperformed Hayward pretty convincingly in reserve grade in recent weeks.

I agree it’s all about confidence with Flanagan. I think he needs to bulk up a bit in off season. I saw a huge difference in Nathan Cleary who did exactly the same thing. Also look at JT when he first played for us, he was small. He bulked up over his time at the cowboys. I really think we may get stuck - where he’s our only option for next year. I think he’s been a lot better since his time away from the first grade. He’s not perfect, but I think he’s getting better with time, but needs to work on upper body strength. One of the tigers didn’t have any respect and gave him a good push. If he works on upper strength he won’t have to put up with shit like that, that will also build his confidence in attack.
Yeah agree... He's actually a good defender but could bulk up

Have you watched reserves the past couple of weeks ?

BBO is only 20 and has had his career badly disrupted due to covid.

I think you may be surprised moving forward.

Adam obrien had the same career path as Fitzgibbon. Under Bellamy and Robinson. You just never know who is going to be a gun coach.

It’s why I like Flanagan. He kept teams in contention each year.
Have yo say I’m leaning towards Flanagan but I wouldn’t be against Paul Green. I’m against assistants being approached who haven’t done a HC job somewhere

They make a solid combo in NSW cup at the moment but I’d like to see BBO given a decent crack in NRL. You can’t change a winning side though… be interesting to see who comes in for Burton

I wouldn't be promoting him now, his defence is questionable and I think he's better off continuing to work on his game in reserves for now. Burton won't miss a game for SOO unless we decide to rest him.

Drinkwater had a similar problems previously, was very good but at the same time extremely erratic and would go for those all or nothing plays far too often. Drinkwater was top tier when he was coming through though, was selected in rep teams at halfback ahead of Cleary.
Many young halves are in the same boat.

Running a first grade team is not easy.

Pressure is enormous.

I have heard stories of young players not being able to sleep.

It's why i didn't want Jake in the halves at present.

Speaking of Jake how about the field goal he nonchalantly knocked over just after the full time siren.

Kid has talent.

I don't think it was a drop kick haha. Anyway I don't think we need to worry much about Jake anymore, pretty much all the weaker areas in his game at fullback are things that can be improved on massively in a single preseason.

I agree he’s better but last time he got a go in FG halves he froze up and didn’t really inject himself. Idk if it’s worth the gamble right now while were playing well, never know if it would piss off burton or the rest of the spine to dump Flanno now

I think the More time he plays 7 in cup the better, when the time comes for him to step up he will be able to hold the spot
I hope he plays reserves all season a wins a comp. Same with a few others.

The club will be better for it.

If wakeham was playing yesterday averillo would have score 4 tries in total...at least on 3 occassions he could have passed to avo on the sweep and with an overlap but chose waddell instead ...wakeham would have nailed it and lets not forget wakeham and rfm combo as well with wakeham putting him through on many occassions in the past
Burton also stuffed up after JAC found him with a break middle of the field and his little kick passed the last cover defender wasn't directed to Averillo on the inside.

Avo was spewing and rightly so
