Even if these guys were bench utilities, they've all come from ridiculously talented squads in recent times and that demonstrates that despite strong competition they still got ample game time. Compared to some of the starting players we've had in recent years they'll look like superstars I'm sure.

Why are you changing the topic? I said these players are players that have failed to establish themselves as top 13 players, so again I ask where I'm wrong? How I feel doesn't really change my opinion on these signings.
Well, they’ve all come from strong systems. I would argue that a good teams utilities are probably better than most of our starters?

Loved him, smart player.
One of the best Canterbury ever had. Smith wasn’t a bits and pieces utility. He was a class lock, second row or centre and in his final year was lethal at dummy half when Hughes or Perry had a break.

No I believe the opposite. The fact that we are relying on the likes of Hutchison, mann, salmon, turpin, tafe etc to drive us forward just screams alarm bells. Im not usually a gambler but I will be sounding out a bookmaker who can give me the best possible odds for us winning the spoon and will be prepared to wage 5 figures on this. We are certainties
Show us the '5 figure' slip or gtfo

People are carrying on like we’re going to have all utilities in the starting squad.
most are here for an opportunity to nail down their specialist position.
There’s only room for one 14. Everyone else will either have a starting spot and, by definition, be a specialist, or will be in cup waiting for an opportunity.
playing a utility role for your past club doesn’t make you a utility forever.

The story is posted on a news media website, but it is the reporters own analysis, so I've tagged it as "Opinion". If nothing else it shows that there are plenty of people watching keenly to see what happens with The Great Bulldogs Utility Experiment ™ beyond just us fans.
A very similar story is on the NRL website as well.

This year, we were competitive until we lost key players for long periods of time. To have these players available, if they don't cement a first grade spot, is something we need badly if the same injury toll is to happen again in 2024. They won't just be playing to fill a gap; they will be out to prove that they can own that position. Very different from an inexperienced junior being asked to play out of position.

The only position/s we seemingly haven't improved and perhaps even gone backwards in is front row..

Regardless of whether a player is a "utility" or not, we have strengthened every other position, and I can't think of one player we let go of, who isn't being replaced by a better player.

@billy beane as always I Respect ur response without defaulting to abuse or threats of violence like many others do

Placeholders as u say, we seem to recruit a hell of a lot of placeholders. Its now been 3 off seasons worth of signing placeholders and questionable ‘marquees’ under Gus. How many more yrs of signing placeholders do we have ahead of us? Why are we signing ageing placeholders and shedding top jnrs like alamoti and averillo?

How is it acceptable that Gus after 3 yrs of opportunities to sign that he has assembled potentially the most pop gun forward pack in our history?

Its nice that u dont have to squint too hard to see a great team in the future. Personly ive assessed every angle with eyes wide open and cant see anything brewing. What exactly about the current situation gives u such optimism? And when exactly do u see that great team coming together in the ‘future’? Future could be2 yrs, 20 yrs, 2000 yrs. How far off are we?

Luai is coming here its a done deal. Unfortunately hes the last thing we need and will put us back another decade. Playing 7 in the jnr ranks compared to first grade is like comparing apples and oranges. Weve seen luai play a leading hand role in first grade a few times and he aint it
@04 Dreaming give it a week and you cop abuse from this contributor. Might even make it all the way to being told to go jump. I stopped reading this person and no going back.

Luai expected to be dealing with Pascoe and a board being challenged so he won't get 1.4m. He has been able to get a 5th year from us. He's milked this brilliantly. Luai is a very fine player. Luai is too similar to Burton. How are both going to be compatible in the halves? Burton goes to centre we have 1.725mil in the centres (Burton 900 Crichton 825).

It's the mixed messaging and being fed lies that's an issue. Most of the news now comes from a Sunday Newspaper or 6pm Channel 9 News. The mixed messaging and lies. We talk about a club rebuilding, developing, pathways, juniors and more. We spit out Averillo and Alamoti. Averillo is hitting his peak years. Alamoti has only got going. We boasted about the signing of Gabreal into our pathways he's gone just when he gets to Development Deal.

We say we aren't about quick fix solutions in the space of 3 weeks we sign Toby Se'ton and Liam Knight for the remainder of the season. I rate Se'ton him not playing at Titans is a reflection of how bad Holbrook was. We go and sign all these players who aren't top 13 material at their former clubs. All punted from their previous clubs. Crichton the exception.

2020 was the last year of the Hasler salary cap era. We had a clean slate every year since and blunder our way.

You are correct we have missed so many targets. Moses, Hunt, Tino, Haas, Leinu, Sele, D Saifiti to name a few. Haas did re sign before 1 November we went public with getting him a mentor. Hunt and Tino complete botch ups. D Saifiti was the contracted one. We didn't even explore Flegler, J Saifiti and Capewell. I still think we will get AFB.

Fans all take different approaches. Most know @Flanagun is right. It's not they want to agree him him it's they just don't accept things. Sport to a lot of people is a way of life. Supporting a team is like being in some kind of relationship whether like being abused in a marriage or parent/child can only see the sun shine in the other, etc. They know the faults just can't face up to them. It's the same in supporting a sporting club just don't want to face them when those detached can. Some fans to get around not seeing is all well just apply critical thinking, some just walk away quietly, some just build a detachment of some kinds or something Flanno told me about just laughing at them as a coping mechanism now speaking up. It's how fans cope all different ways.

Logic suggests these signings are reserve graders. Reynolds was pumped up as Cooper Cronk or Terry Lamb greatness in his mid 30's. He didn't last a year. Pele was pumped up now gone. Mahoney didn't become the marquee 9 we bought him to be. He's just a solid 9 at best with a big ego and personality. He's not in the class of Ennis, Hetherington, Peponis or even JMK. Our fans will build them up out of hope. I can understand this they just want hope. When those who come in and question things they don't want to know about it and why we get told to kill ourselves so they don't have to hear it.

How do you know which players we did and didn’t explore?

2000 years? Why even bother with such nonsense for a club less than 100 years old.

2024 is really the first season majorly influenced by Gus. Up to now we’ve been waiting to shed expensive and ineffective signings such as TPJ (who we got lucky shedding a year early), Thompson, Flanagan etc.

I don’t get why Averillo and Alamoti are seen as big losses. It’s great when juniors make it but neither could defend well and we were leaking points like a sieve. Avo could finish but Xerri and Critta easily replace that.

As for forwards everyone knows how little available there was - yet you keep banging on about inability to sign anyone. And you’re still saying Luai is a done deal despite being wrong about that up to now. Sigh…

Can u walk the walk though. I expect to see a betting ticket for us getting the spoon before next season from you. If not what u say is just trolling and fluff.
