ok , I used to rent latest movies from Blockbuster DVD shops and slowly & gradually all the the physical shops have vanished and now we have vending machines which are like one every 10-15 kms.

So the problem with these kiosk/ vending machines is that there is only limited number of movies, you can not get movies older than 12 months or any movie which is a low budget movie or which didnt make enough money on the box office. for Example other day I was looking for movie "The Flash" and I couldnt find it in the listing for my local kiosk. I went to another kiosk and couldnt find it there either. I jumped on blockbuster online and guess what, not there either.

In short , if I want to watch American history X or Terminator 2, I can not rent it from anywhere.

I have heard about Netflix and Stan , so I decided to subscribe to one of these to get the unlimited movies I want to watch, but I was told by my friend that it is the same problem with Netflix and Stan.... there are fucken limited number of movies on that too!

Can anyone please suggest what can i do to get access to all the movies (old , new , low budget, etc) like I did back when we had physical video rental shops?

PS. please dont suggest pirate sites as I only watch quality pictures with quality sound.

I stream using a raspberry Pi loaded with some software called Kodi. Quality of tv and movies is generally superior to what is broadcast by networks here. No idea how it works exactly. A mate who works in IT set it up for me. Caralogue is amazing.

If you have a smart TV and like foreign/art house movies, sbs on demand has hundreds of movies in its catalogue for free. Also a lot of smart tvs allow you to rent movies direct for a few bucks (my Sony does).

With the streaming services like Netflix and Stan, content seems to be limited so you will need to subscribe to more than one to get everything.

But with regards to movies that are brand new, unless you want to watch a camcorder job, then you will either have to wait or go to the cinema... speaking of which, you wouldn't be that far from the Yatala drive in. Great spot for a night out.

Might I make a suggestion... don't rent movies like Terminator 2 which you've already seen, go out and buy it from JB HI FI - it'll be reasonably priced too.

Thanks for the detailed reply. No I dont want camcorder shit , i want quality prints with quality sound cos i have a home theater system and i dont watch movies without using the surround sound.

I also have a Sony Smart TV, which app you use to rent movies ?

Also when i say brand new movies, i meant fresh off the cinema screen.

Netflix and Stan are complete waste of money as I heard and you also confirmed now, so not getting that shit

I was just giving an example. from the blockbuster kiosk you can not rent older/ classic movies as we could with the actual DVD rental shops in good old days.

Well, I used to be able to rent movues through the Sony Entertainment menu (I thunk it was called "movies unlimited " or sonething..

I must admit I haven't accessed it in months since i moved this tv to a different room, and now when I go in, i no longer get this option.

Actually a bit annoyed as I had about $5 credit on my account!

I am also annoyed as it appears SBS on demand is no longer available...

I know mate I know. I also DO NOT like how you need a credit card to rent from the machines.

The good old days are long gone. I used to love walking through the popcorn scented aisles on Friday nights looking to rent the movie or video game for my weekend. Then there were the Saturdays nights which looked to be boring and unplanned... we'd go out and rent a movie, order pizza and bang... it was an AWESOME Saturday night in.

Oh well...

Buy a Kodi box off eBay. Every movie/tv show you can think of will be on there.

I miss blockbuster. I remember being so hyped to go with my dad on Friday nights to hire new release movies and some old arnie movies to watch and getting pizza.
Blockbuster literally was here one day then gone the next.
