So far we've only missed out on Payne Haas, Tino Fa'asumaleaui, Moeki Fotuaika, Alex Twal, Alex Seyfarth, Keaon Koloamatangi, Stefano Utoikamanu even Sean Keppie. WTF is Gus doing ? We're going to have one of the weakest packs over the next 2 years it seems. Extra f..king pressure on our halves and backs - just what they need. Where's the big surprise ? Are we getting both Saifiti brothers LOL ? Doubt it. We're seriously f..ked as far as I can see.

Now we're desperately scraping the bottom of the barrel. Our ONLY hope is one of the Saifiti brothers are allowed by the Knights (might have to make a trade even) to break contract FFS and we pick up Jordan McLean then throw BIG money at Terrell May come November 1 for 2025. Lucky we signed Kikau when we did or we'd have virtually no strike or size in the forwards whatsoever. How did it come to this ?

Is there even 1 mongrel hard running hard hitting forward in our juniors with potential to play NRL in the next couple of years ? Not as far as I know.

I still think we should have kept Pele. He had potential.

If anyone has any inside info on good signings please DM me. I'm desperate and f..king sick of waiting for Gus to announce.

Well, that 2024 off contract list is for the 2025 season, some decent players there…. But if we can’t pick up guys like Jordan McLean, Eddie Blacker and Tepai Moerua for 2024, we will get steam rolled weekly

Easy fix. Don't read. I thought this place was for discussion. New players are the only thing that's gonna save us in the short term. We've missed so many opportunities I need to whinge and let it out. Also hoping someone can suggest a decent solution

We haven't missed out on Keon YET, unless he changed his mind on leaving his decision till early November? I mean, I'm expecting we WILL miss out, but gotta keep faith while he's still on the market!

To be fair, if I was a good forward I wouldn't want to come to a basketcase club like ours ATM.....

For years we neglected fixing our spine and halves while we still had decent forwards. We then became completely reliant on forwards as we had no support coming from our spine.

The burden on our forwards took its toll and they are gone.

Now we find ourselves in a position where we tried to fix our spine, but those efforts have failed and there's even more pressure on the forwards to do more.

And here we are.... Players know we are still a basket case and they know they will have to work extra hard just to get us to an acceptable playing level. They factor that in and refuse and take up other offers.

Our only hope is to pick someone up who's desperate or blocked into first grade or find from within.

This all started by the neglect of the spine. Something we've never sorted and with no end in sight.

It wouldn't surprise me if we never won a premiership again in our lifetime.....

I don't know how Gus or anyone at the club can be blamed for not signing Haas, Tino, Fotuaika, Keaon etc when they were all re-signed well before they were allowed to negotiate with other clubs from November 1..

Yes we need forwards more than anything but it's unfair and unrealistic to be critical about not signing players that are already locked up long term before anyone else is allowed to negotiate with them.

Bring back Barry ward

Probably still better than half our current options
Thanks for the thread mate, The lack of a few good middle forwards should be of a major concern for all dogs fans,
The one Gus should have thrown the Citchen sink at was Spencer, but because of brown paper bags, or Gus's relationship with Politis we missed out.
We could at least gotten Grieg who was off contract for quite a while. with our current crop of signed middle forwards we would be lucky to finish higher then 14.
Gus knows his football inside out and what we need, but he is now starting to worry me.

I know this sounds counterintuitive, but it's actually in the best interest of the clubs at the bottom of the ladder if they salary cap went down and not up....

It would mean top clubs would have to release or not resign more of their players and give the lower ranked clubs a better chance to recruit.

We unfortunately put our faith in a couple of halves that have failed to take us to where we wanted to be..... Flanno and Burton

As a result, our forwards looked poor (whole team really), they since left, and with the broadcast deal and salary cap jumping up, we find ourselves Inna position where salary cap pressure has not affected good players in top clubs.

So we've missed the cycle and now have a year of misery to contend with till 2025

Like i keep saying, you haven't missed out on a player if they re-sign with their club. You've only missed out if they choose to leave for another club, and it's not yours. There is a major difference between the two!
Spot on.. It should be pretty straight forward to understand but a lot of our fans are so frustrated and emotional after years of failure that they ignore facts like this and just look to blame Gus or anyone else even though those players were never on the market.

For sure, the Dolphins being added and the cap going up so much in one year happened at the worst time for us after we finally worked for years towards getting rid of bad deals and creating cap space..

Then once we have that cap space, 35 players go to the 17th team and every other club gets an extra few million to re-sign their stars with. The timing couldn't have been worse..

Most other clubs use under the table offers, I think players would be prepared to wait for November 1, if there is a much better offer waiting.
