Much has been said about our salary cap problems. Weve also used about 25 players so far this year. Some players are off contract at years end and may not be renewed.
But the majority of this present squad WILL be there next year.
A fellow dogs fan mate said to me today....looking at the way we play, whats going to be so different next season? We are running last. Weve been smashed in 4 games this season and competed in the rest, with 3 wins to show for our effort.
The highlight of the season was our win over the Tigers followed by a loss despite being the best team on the field performance the next week against Storm. Why have we since gone backwards after the Storm effort in Melbourne.? Who in the squad is doing their job and who isnt? Why have we changed that competitive gameplan?
Although Andrew Hill says we have 1 more year left of salary cap issues I dont buy that. The reason is this. Who exactly do we hope to buy for the 2021 season? Who do we think will come to us from 2021 that will turn this current malaise all around? Who is going to make all the difference to our playing style, intensity, skill level? Are we about to purchase a franchise making player? The vast majority of this present squad will still be there. Can we honestly see them playing any different to the way they play now?
As seen with Seibol, Cleary and Maguire a new coach could work or it may not.
So given all of this, what should we wish for this next Christmas, that's going to make all the difference to our competitiveness going forward?
