[h=1]Three way battle for stadium funding pits Penrith Panthers against Parramatta Eels and Wests Tigers[/h]

THIS is Penrith's bold vision to emerge triumphant in Western Sydney's three-way battle for stadium supremacy.

The Panthers are vying with Wests Tigers and Parramatta to secure the third major arena in Sydney alongside Allianz and ANZ stadiums.
The three clubs banded together to fight the AFL invasion but will now be forced to cannibalise one another over a proposed 40,000 seat stadium.
The Panthers, Parramatta Eels and Wests Tigers all want the state government-funded arena - part of a stadia strategy - built in their backyard.
NSW Sports Minister Graham Annesley confirmed yesterday "the potential need for a new stadium in western Sydney".
Parramatta told of their need for a new venue on Tuesday with Penrith yesterday releasing designs for a new stadium on Mulgoa Road.

The Panthers design shows a magnificent state-of-the-art arena which would be home to Penrith, rivals codes, cricket, and rock concerts.
Penrith management has already held top-level discussions with prominent bureaucrats and stadium experts from Melbourne.
The Panthers claim the centre of growth corridors of Castle Hill and Campelltown is Penrith and the stadium would be just 1km from railway stations and the M4.
They also say Parramatta is too close to the ANZ Stadium at Olympic Park.
"There is also an entertainment precinct (Panthers) across the road and a carpark," Penrith Panthers group chief executive Warren Wilson said.
"We want to play a number of sports at the stadium because we need backsides on seats. There would even be a drop-in cricket pitch."
Annesley said government funds would maintain and upgrade Sydney's larger stadiums - not upgrade smaller suburban venues like Brookvale Oval, Campbelltown Stadium, Wollongong, Shark Park and Kogarah.
"The NSW government released its stadia strategy last year which said future government investment will focus on government owned or leased venues," Annesley said.

Penrith, WTF? They only crack 10K on a good day. Parra are disillusion if they think they have somehow outgrown their own stadium.

Build somewhere near Bankstown and we can share with Tigpies?

Parra games tend to sell out, and remember that Parra lose home games to ANZ all the time because their ground does not hold enough people.

I can see the justification for Parra getting a new stadium, let the WSW soccer d1ckheads keep the old ground.

Parra give up their game to the dogs, hardly call that "all the time", plus I doubt them selling out games is actually pretty rare (the soccer team is more likely to).

If only the Oasis project was able to be built.

Just build one at Liverpool ... call it the "Stardome" =P ....

Liverpool is centrally located for not just those 3 teams but also for us, they even have the land available =P

Get it done Barry =P

They should clear out Eastern Creek dump and build a stadium there, or opposite Arndell Park on the old Telstra Land

There's talk today of spending 250 million on ANZ to turn it into an indoor stadium, with retractable North and South ends...

With the money they have spent on the show ground, couldn't they piss off all the GAYFL and cricket games out there
and turn ANZ into a full time rectangular stadium =) ....

I personally think what they will do is build a new stadium at Penrith and then try and get a number of teams to commit to playing out of a redeveloped ANZ or a completely new stadium in Parramatta.

That way youd have a stadium in inner Sydney, the geographical centre of Sydney and western Sydney. Hard to argue against that type of logic.

Then again...its the NSW Gov....

Campbelltown hands down. Train line 150 yards from the stadium entrance. You cant get more convenient public transport than that.

Parking at Parra is sh*thouse, I highly doubt with the money they would have to spend on rebuilding the stadium to hold more than a bus load of supporters, that they'd consider spending more to make more convenient parking for the venue.

Nothing beats Homebush, centered well amongst the majority of Sydney teams. They just need to do something about the traffic coming in and out, something to help it flow a little better.

We tried that years ago: the "Oasis" project. It was just outside the protected zone for the Sydney casino. Oasis was scuttled when our salary cap issues were magically made public, and the whole thing exposed to trial by media. We were then offered Homebush at a very good deal, because it was in danger of becoming a white elephant
