They did all out defend after the 88th minute. The problem was earlier when Barcelona were attacking and PSG had no one up front to put Barcelona under pressure. They needed to score 2 goals. They thought they could play all out defense from much earlier

its like parramatta having the big lead in the preliminary final in 1998, they didnt need to score another try they just needed paul carige to not be a retard or the defence to not collapse or halligan to miss a sideline kick

btw this mentality reminds me of the idiot frank farina in 2001 who got the 1-0 lead to take to uruguay and for some reason was talking about getting an away goal to put australia in a commanding position, so we attacked hard from the kick off but conceded the early goal and were on the backfoot eventually losing 0-3

believe it or not sometimes being defensive is the more positive move, like defending a 4-0 lead is believing that they cant score 4 goals but needing to score 2 goals is believing they will score 6

first of all i have a great imagination, i have been through this situation many times on football manager and we were talking about their mentality during the main portion of game

tell me at what part of the game did PSG think they need a goal?

kickoff 0-0 (0-4) mentality: ok ffs just dont concede 4 goals
3' 1-0 (1-4) mentality: oh shit thats not good, lets just get over this and try to not concede for 15 minutes then work from there
20' 1-0 (1-4) mentality: ok now we are in the game, lets continue to defend
40' 2-0 (2-4) mentality: oh shit, ok lets just get to halftime without conceding a goal and regroup
halftime 2-0 (2-4) mentality: now this is looking tight, we have to work really hard in defence for the next 15-20 minutes, if they dont score then they will be increasingly open and we can hit them on the counter attack
50' 3-0 (3-4) mentality: oh shit now we are in trouble, we might need to score a goal now but at the very least lets not concede another
62 3-1 (3-5) mentality: hahahaha yes, ok now we got the goal, lets just sit back now and not concede anything untill the end of the game
85 3-1 (3-5) mentality: lol great job we are heading to the next round baby, just see this out

so maybe for 12 minutes they felt they needed a goal, that ended as soon as they got it

yes its an invitation for barca to pile on pressure but its even more of an invitation to barca if they have to beat 5 or 6 and not 9 players, just ask italian teams who are the masters of defending a 1-0 lead how many world cups and champion leagues they have won

So excited for the R.Madrid vs Bayern game, it could go either way, Real Madrid could struggle with both Pepe and Varane injured and Nacho being woeful but as a team they look alot more cohesive then they have been in previous years and thats just scary with the players at there power. Bayern on the other hand can be a mixed bag in the UCL, sometimes they come out and put away any side that's in front of them and other times they play like there disinterested. Bayern also have Ancelotti at the helm and imo he is the best cup competition around atm. I think Madrid will win this one tbh.

The Monaco and Dortmund game should be really exciting for the neutral with to super attacking teams going at it. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Monaco win the whole thing as a dark horse.

Bayern leading R.Madrid 1-0 at halftime and have been the better side but they did miss a penalty at the end of the first half (shouldn't have been a pen anyway). Real Madrid look likely to score imo.

reading about the barca v psg game - i honestly believe if barca played a season in a tougher league as well as playing champions league they would struggle big time

Barca are the team who probably should be on the way down now, but to their credit, never go down without a fight. They have an amazing roster, however significantly weaker than it was say 5-6 years ago.

Idk about Barcelona tbh, like there really top heavy but there midfield/defence/Keeper are all below par. Neymar should leave imo, his becoming to complacent and his progress has been stagnated, he needs to be the main man at a team. In the midfield, Andre Gomes is the biggest waste of space and dreadful, Iniesta can't stay on the park for more than 10 games, and Rakitic looks like he has aged 5 years in the space of a couple of months. The defence is horrifying, the havn't had a proper right back in almost 2 seasons now, Pique and Mascherano have started there decline and Umtiti looks there only solid defender.
