The former Roosters playmaker struggled in the first half with a poor defensive read to concede the opening try

Proves this dip shit has no idea about footy considering we were short on numbers and Hutcho had to choose between a wrapping playmaker or come in on a runner short.

It was also Faamasuili's man who didnt slide. Scecondly if Hutchison took Wilton the ball would have gone out the back and the sharks would have scored in the corner anyway.

If anything it was bad communication on the line by all.

Haha. The difference was only a bad pass. At the time when probably half of the the players on the field were not regular first graders too. But one team was called professional outfit and the other have problems to solve

Have to admit though hynes was not playing. But then again they are a team that been together for a while.

Ciraldo needs to get us to play more add lib attacking footy.
The bash and barge will not work as we won’t have anything in our attack left ,he needs to bank on our skilful backline to get more points,1,6,7 and 9 really need to take charge and run proper lines and have all players in motion running and not slow motion.

If i was ciraldo I would give an offload licence to
King
Kiraz
Crighton
Kikau

We can protect our line and defend we have to just throw more risk attacking plays ,the dumb boring footy makes us do more mistakes.
Positive brand of footy let’s do this .

Why would you bring on Sexton for the last 20 minutes? That’s what is difficult to accept…he should have at least given sexton half a game
Why? He wanted to see more of Hutch and give him a chance to perform.

What's so hard to understand?

Bringing Sexton on I imagine was to see if it affected other combinations etc. but it was more important to give Hutch that time to stake his claim.

Wow, what an embarrassing string of sentences that is.

I took more positives than negatives from the game. So much to work on, yet only lost at the end from a shit pass.
Jesus Raysie don’t say that too loud or shit will get emotionally charged in here quickly.

Halfback, fullback a headache for Ciraldo

If Cameron Ciraldo thinks Drew Hutchison is the answer to their halfback problem, he’s asking the wrong questions.

The former Roosters playmaker struggled in the first half with a poor defensive read to concede the opening try, bombing a Bulldogs four-pointer with a poor pass and giving a couple of his runners hospital passes as they were crunched by the grateful Sharks defence.

For all the millions spent on new recruits in the past few years, the Dogs still haven’t solved their highest priority – finding a halfback who can harness their talented stars.

Whether Ciraldo goes into Round 1 with Hutchison or ex-Titans playmaker Toby Sexton alongside Matt Burton, chances are the half will become the latest in a long line of playmakers who have been handed the role but have been chewed up and spat out of the kennel’s revolving doggy door.

Sexton only got 16 minutes of game time at the end when Burton was given a breather so he is highly unlikely to be given the keys to the team for their trip to Parramatta to kick off the season.

Fullback is Ciraldo’s other problem spot with former Rabbitohs utility Blake Taaffe making a string of fundamental errors at the back.

Stephen Crichton came to Canterbury from Penrith hoping to establish himself in his preferred position of fullback but after being selected for his club debut at centre, he was benched after 20 minutes.

He should have been running at fullback every training session in the pre-season and getting a chance to establish some on-field combinations from the back in this game but Ciraldo seemingly has other plans for their marquee signing.

As things currently stand, the Dogs are on course for another season of disappointment with not even a sniff of the playoffs in their nostrils.

For the Sharks, they played as you would expect their professional outfit to operate.

Even with Nicho Hynes in cotton wool for Round 1 after blowing off his summer cobwebs in the All-Stars game last week, they looked solid as always.

Second-rower Teig Wilton looked strong, touching down for the opening try, in his comeback from a knee injury which cut short his 2023 campaign.

They will be strong again this season but whether they can knock over the top dogs, not teams like the Bulldogs, will be the lingering question hovering over them until they prove otherwise.

“That was way too easy … paper thin,” said Fox Sports analyst Cooper Conk when Wilton sliced past Hutchison to draw first blood on the scoreboard.

Briton Nikora prevented Canterbury equalising on the half-hour mark with a diving cover tackle on ex-Sharks centre Bronson Xerri but was banished to the bin for holding on way too long afterwards.

The hosts eventually capitalised on their numerical advantage with Jacob Preston crashing over just before the break.

With both coaches emptying their bench to give extended squad members a taste of NRL action, the attack in particular was ragged for each team even though both sides muscled up in defence.

The winning try from a Bulldogs passing error with winger Chris Vea’ila sprinting away for an early birthday present the night before he turns 21.

Burton may have a judiciary drama to deal with after he was placed on report for a high shot in the second half – it goes without saying (or typing in this instance) that if he is suspended for Round 1, the downward Dogs will be at even longer odds to upset Parra.

Sharks forward Jesse Colquhoun could also be missing when they open their account away to the Warriors after limping off with a foot injury.
Nothing but negative crap about the Bulldogs performance, with lots of excuses for any of the Sharks shortcomings. No other club continuously cops these sort of “doom” articles from the press, just looking for clicks & to extend their mindlessly negative narrative regarding a club that has become their “whipping boy”. They just do not seem to comprehend that a strong Bulldogs club = a strong NRL. Does the NRL a major dis-service. Rant over.

What exactly was wrong with the article though. If 1967 or word count wrote this there would be a kennel circle jerk

I don't get why people are making out CC giving Hutch more game time as a big thing?

Sexton played enough last year so CC knows what he can bring, so of course Hutch gets more time so he can see how he goes.

Why's that so difficult to accept? And why do we need to make drama about that?
Exactly and sexpo has dominated yet but he will probably get the nod now

The OP was watching a different match from the one I saw. I watched a first half with 2 teams almost at full strength finish 6-6, with the Dogs conceding a try through bad communication and scoring one through continued pressure. Through my admittedly one eye, I saw the Dogs go close several times, and the Sharks looking unlikely to score again. This, against a team that has monstered us for several seasons due to their size advantage (which they still had).

The second half had all the rookies on, and was a trial in every sense of the word. Our rookies looked marginally better than theirs, despite going down 0-6.

This. Bbo nearly scored and so did Xerri , we lost after a rookie threw a wayward pass.. that’s it. Judge round 1 and see.
24-0 the entire two games that’s half of what some teams put on us on 1 game

Another RAG's report that isn't good enough to wipe an arse with...I'm being polite by the way !!!
Keep this rubbish coming djdeep, it might slightly blemish the rebuild but it can't stop it.
This is a promise to all the Doomers & Gloomers....I hope you aren't one of em

Just wait til NRL360 starts. There will be an article each day based on what was already discussed the night before
The show that proceeds 360, talks about everything 360 will talk about anyway goes for 30 minutes less and doesn't have that buffoon rothfield on it . . . Although it does have Blocker and Spud so it isn't buffoon free

I want us to unleash a brand of footy that was similar to the entertainers, biggest mistake we can make is to be bash and barge,we need to be asking questions almost every play in a set,Burton needs to run and Mahooney needs to not stifle the attack,Burton if he plays off the cuff can be one of the best in the game.
My biggest questions regardless of a rebuild or not is Ciraldo going to shackle us or free us,that my friend is the question you should be asking.
You’ll have your answer before our bye comes up that’s more than enough time.
We can only enjoy the ride
Let’s beat eels that would be a huge boost for our team confidence.
