Tom Amone

Greg Eastwood went England for abit didn't he? He came back and killed it but then again he was a beast.

He played for the Bulldogs in 2009 then went to England just for 2010 before coming back in 2011 to the Bulldogs. He was really good in 2009 before he went to England.

I think he will start off bench may take him a while getting up to speed but he has a great attitude

Amone and our spine are the biggest questions for me. If both fire we won't miss finals at least. Not that I think Amone is huge or will be great, but a decent 3 big-man rotation, with Curren's workrate and skills added in, would fill a big hole. Todd will hopefully be ready if we need someone else.

With the spine in attack, I've got most confidence in Tracey to do his job consistently (even though Burto's long kicking is big for us), but if they're all consistent, the sky is the limit.

Cant say i even know who he is. Not expecting anything at all from him. I wouldnt be surprised if he rarely plays first grade. Thats only going off the effort guys put in last year. Anyway seems a cheap signing that could have reward if lucky. Fingers crossed i get surprised

So a couple things that fill me with confidence going into 2025.
1) finally have a settled coaching staff that the team feel confident in.
2) we go into an off-season with a settled 1, 6, 7, 9 and 13.
3) they are all fit and healthy and
4) because our defensive structures are in place, we finally get to spend time on fine tuning our attack in the off-season. Something that they have said in the past has not really happened. And not only our spine is settled, but so to are our edges. Surely that has to count for something.

Excellent post. People saying we will go backwards have no idea about rugby league

A lot of people look at the warriors and say we might be a repeat of them, good one year and bad the next. One thing to remember about them; In 2023 Shaun Johnson was arguably the best player in the comp. How many close games did he win for them? In 2024 he couldn't retire soon enough. How many close games did they lose that SJ version 2023 would have won?

Forget that. Our easier draw alone gifts us at least another 4 competition points. We were probably unlucky to lose more close games (Souths, Canberra, Cowboys and Storm) then we were to win close games (Warriors and Sharks)

I think the comp has the potential to be easier for us as well. Panthers and Roosters should fall. Sharks and Storm a bit better. Cowboys and Broncos shpuld improve. Aside from injuries, no reason why top 4 is beyond us.

I agree ..but it's not even just rugby league.
Its sport in general ....if you have a settled team who already understands defensive principles ..then you just need to edit that (make sure it's still humming & if not tweak the deficiencies)
AND then you can focus on attack!!!

I guess ...it's not even just sport!
This is applicable to all business and gov ...

The biggest reason is our success is built on defense.

The Warriors had a Dally M player of the year. Even the Broncos had Walsh, and when they didn't fire the Brocs and Warriors were crap.

We didn't rely on having a Dally M type player to win us games, we won games on the back of defense.

Now that those structures are in place there isn't any reason why we can't stay a top 8 side for years to come.

His final against us was a poor way to go out, but it made up for the way he won against us off a blatant obstruction on the full time siren, in 2023.

Totally agree. And that wasn't flukey either. It was built on a culture and roster change, implemented by the guy that had already done it and proven it before over and over at the panthers.

We don't rely on any one players brilliance, and I can't think of any player in the team that maybe got lucky last season and might not be able to live up to the same heights next season. Definitely no one that is crucial to our success.

The only thing we rely on is Burton's big boot which was able to kick us out of trouble. particularly when we started sets on our own line. Hopefully with a stronger pack and another year together we wont be as easily dominated rucking it up off of our own line.

Squad fitness overall and consistency of selection & cohesion is the key to everything.
If we can keep a consistent (primarily spine) on the field. I think our attack will improve out of site. Hopefully keeping the fundamentals of our defence from last year.
