Was the fight itself great or was it more the crazy ending?
I didn't get to see the card unfortunately
Yeah it was a bit of a war didn’t give halloway much of a chance tbh but he picked gaethje apart then to bring him in at the end like that when he was winning that fight comfortably where he could have easily got knocked out got huge respect for him.

Well deserved the 600k bonus aswell he called Dana out for it aswell after the fight lol

Man what a fight!!! DP really gave it his all. His defensive grappling has hugely improved. Makhachev dangerous everywhere! Skill level through the roof.

One of the better title fights I’ve seen.

Jeez - lucky man - was gunna put something down on Bobby and Blessed - thank fck I didn't.

Just saw some photos of Bobbys jaw - if u told me that Chimaev could genuinely rip someones head off - I probably wouldn't believe it b4. Now - not so sure. As for Ilia - he's just cleaned everyone up easily so I am not even sure where his limit is. May as well throw him in against Islam - no one else is anywhere near him.

IMO Whittaker was never going to be a chance in this one.

Wonder if Ilia will have the gumption to move up a division like all of the clear champions of their preferred division do?

Been looking at the way Chimaev dives in thinking if its not tee kicks, how exactly do you defend that? Come Nov 1 when the 12-6 elbow becomes legal, will be very interesting.

Ilia will roll in this division and make coin. Think the only person in this division that has a chance is Yair but its a punchers chance. Make coin for a year or 2 then look up. If islam is still chewing his way through that division the coin on that fight will be epic.

What is it with these crazy Russians. Dominating ufc

Their wrestling is just too good.
Makes for boring fights for the most part though IMO.

Alexander Volkanovski is fighting Diego Lopes to regain the featherweight belt this weekend. Gonna be a great fight, Volkanovski looks a slight favorite to win, real hard fight though. Recommend tuning into this one. Stacked card.

Stacked card? Nah. Chandler vs Paddy at 2 says so.

And as much as I love Volk, reckon this is not a good fight for him. Reckon neither guy has the power, don't think Lopes can get the sub and reckon the only big q is Volks chin. Two bad knockouts will do that to you. Think if Lopes can tag him enough to get him to the ground, Volk will be over anyways. So not really sure what the path to victory is here for either guy except Lopes tagging Volk.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Yeah you're right. UFC fans have become way to complacent with absolute garbage lately so in contrast this card appears better than it really is.

Disagree with the latter though. Volkanovski is a way better fighter than Lopes pretty much everywhere and saying he has no path to victory is ludicrous. It's a coin toss for me. While Volks chin isn't there anymore and Lopes is very powerful, all it will take him is one shot, I think Volk is going to grapple with Lopes. I see a G&P tko in the later rounds if Lopes hasn't put him out before then. Really tough fight to pick

5 fights that are hard to call.

Alexander Volkanovski vs Diego Lopes
Michael Chandler vs Paddy Pimblett
Bryce Mitchell vs Jean Silva
Yair Rodriguez vs Patricio Pitbull
Nikita Krylov vs Dominick Reyes

Patricio Pitbull making his UFC debut. Great fighter but past his peak. I wish that we saw him in the UFC years ago.

Yeah Yair should butcher Pitbull tbh, would be surprised if he didn't. Pumped for Krylov vs Reyes

One shot? 9 years since Volk has knocked someone out with 'one shot'. And only one TKO in 8 years (Korean Zombie doesn't count since that was technically a ref stoppage). Yair is the only one in that time and he walked into a shot trying to be Yair. So odds are Volk isn't knocking him out. Happy to count out wrestling, BJJ or Samba (whatever u want to call the ground game) coz if Islam cannot sub Volk in 5 rounds Lopes is probably long odds as well.

Lopes has range so Volk is gunna need to step in. But thats exactly what Volks game is all about, getting the other guy thinking counter punch. He wants to counter the counter. Islam did that first fight and should have lost. He stepped in 2nd time around (as did Ilia) and we know what happened. And imv, Lopes was picking apart Ortega for the 1st 2 rounds more than Volk could do. But styles make fights right?

To me, if Lopes is coached well enough to step in, he'll catch Volk within a few rounds. And he's a swarmer so that may be all it takes. He's got hands too. Dropped Ortega clean with a great combo early.

The only drag on Lopes is 5 rounds. Lopes hasn't really dom'd over 3 rounds. He fades. So think he may not go too hard trying to pace. Which works well for Volk. So imv this is either a quick Lopes win or a 5 round drag that Volk probably gets on points (and Lopes will be kicking himself for 2 days later). If I'm Lopes, I'm going in on the back of kicks with combos. Few dummy TD attempts to keep him honest. Put it all on the first 2 rounds.

So I like the odds and I like the fact Volk is no longer unfinishable. Thats a big thing. My money is on Lopes but I hope Volk wins.

I meant Lopes would put him out with one shot dud (I see how poorly I phrased that before now). Volk aint knocking anyone out let alone Lopes. In all likelihood he will put Volkanovski out in the first round to be honest but I don't write off the possibility of Volk winning

My 2 cents boys.. always been a massive Volk fan. First fight with Makhachev was pretty epic. Plus a sting of unreal performances. Volk looks in really good shape but I think Lopes is too fast for him. Really happy to be wrong but that’s how I see it. The card is a bit average tbh but sometimes the prelims can unearth a star so we’ll see how it goes.

If Volk was to win I’d say it would have to be on points. Lopes will be sharp early rounds. Speed and range. He’s also got a very diverse striking game and slick grappler. He is a hard fight for anyone in that div.
