Daily Telegraph had a top 50 NRL players from 1998-now. The top 10 in order were:

01. Andrew Johns
02. Cameron Smith
03. Darren Lockyer
04. Johnathan Thurston
05. Brad Fittler
06. Billy Slater
07. Greg Inglis
08. Sonny Bill Williams
09. Gorden Tallis
10. Cooper Cronk

Can’t really argue much with it. I’d probably only swap Lockyer and Fittler and have Shane Webcke ahead of Cronk.

Yeah, I'd probably have Webcke ahead of Cronk too. Swap JT and Lockyer around. Probably wouldn't have Tallis in my top 10 either. Maybe Steve Price, but I might be a bit biased there.

Ricky retired in 2000. Still think he had a better kicking and passing game.
Ricky Stuart is better than Cooper Cronk but before 1998. 1998 onwards Ricky wasn't that good.

If Cronk wins one at the chooks he’ll jump a few places.

There is NO WAY Lockyer was better than JT. Both in their prime, JT shits on Lockyer from great heights.

SBW are you serious? Out of the game for 5 years, plays 2 very ordinary seasons for the dogs (05 and 07) and yet he's still in there?

Gorden Tallis LMAO!

What a farce of a list. How can Gordon Tallis’ 5 years in the NRL since 1998 rate him higher than Cooper Cronk’s 15 years ?
Tallis wouldn’t be in my top 20. Smith is a standout number one with JT next.

on talent alone, SBW belongs there but in his 5 seasons in FG with the Dogs, 2 were interrupted by injury, and one by his walk out... fair enough, he does return to the NRL with the Roosters and wins another premiership but still, no. 8 is too high

Tallis was a bit overrated and i am not sure he deserves to be in the top 10... for example, i think Ben Kennedy was every bit as good as a second rower, and Webcke the premier prop in the game during the same time

Thurston probably deserves to be above Lockyer, although both were great

Cameron Smith unlucky not to be no. 1
