The one person England let go of was Hernan Crespo. Best player for Chelsea over the years.

Wrong decision.

Liverpool should of bid for him while he was on loan to AC.

Just down the road at Stanley park. They are going to knock Anfield down and develop into a residential & shopping complex!

Chelsea would never allow that to happen. He might have been on loan to AC but chelsea still owned him.

That is a shame. Where is the history. Old Trafford, Anfield, White heart lane, Goodison park, Highbury, upton park, Stamford Bridge. That is where it is at. Those and more are/were the great grounds in the epl.

These days it is all sponsorship. Emirates stadium...give me a break!
 
Xabi Alonso thinks boss Rafa Benitez has found the missing ingredient which will help Liverpool mount a serious title challenge this season.
The Spaniard, who looked in fine form against Werder Bremen on Tuesday night, believes competition for places down the flanks could hold the key to securing a first championship since 1990.

"I think we have improved in terms of wingers with Yossi and Ryan, but also if you look at Jermaine – he is in very good shape and playing really well," Alonso told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I think maybe this will be an important part of our game this season, out wide.

"Sometimes last year we had players out there who prefered to be in a different position, like Luis Garcia, who liked playing as a second striker. Also, we missed Harry Kewell to injury. If he is fit we are looking very promising in these positions."

Alonso and his teammates are at a training camp in Switzerland, and while the midfielder admits the squad likes to get away from Melwood every now and again, he insists it is no easy ride.

"It's always good to get away like this because you usually just train in the same place every day," he said. "But we are trying hard to get fit for the new season and Pako is always working us very hard – not just in pre-season."

The Reds take on Auxerre on Friday hoping to continue a run of three pre-season victories.

The latest win over Werder Bremen on Tuesday saw Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel and Yossi Benayoun make their first appearances for the club.

All three showed glimpses of what they can do – though Torres could well have marked his debut with two goals late on.

It wasn't to be – but countryman Alonso believes the newboy will not dwell on what might have been.

He said: "In the last few minutes he had some chances but that won't bother him. He will get more chances soon and we know he'll score. It was a good night for him whatever because he made his Liverpool debut."

anfield isnt expandable... and liverpool cannot survive at anfield financially...

Arsenal had to move from highbury because of this... and as for the emirates... i dont mind the name... before they were gonna call it the sega arena

Billya... the moral in football is that you can never ever sell your player to a big rival like liverpool...

Fergie wanted Steven Gerrard so much after couple of seasons back and he made a 20m bid for liverpool to lure steven gerrard to OT but that back fired

They are willing to sell him for 6 million as Evra has been keeping him out of the left back position anyway. There is no way in hell they would sell him to their rivals. It is stupidity like that (maybe not on the same level) that let King/God/Lord Cantona come from Leeds to Man United.

Liverpool cruise in friendly win over Auxerre

Liverpool eased to a 2-0 victory over French side Auxerre in a low-key friendly in Switzerland.

Recent signings Ryan Babel and Yossi Benayoun were handed their first starts for the Reds while young Bulgarian goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov also came in, but both sides struggled to muster any cohesive football in a poor first half.

But Liverpool managed to go into the interval ahead when Steven Gerrard finished off the game's first flowing move just seconds before half-time.

Babel cleverly dummied a ball in from the right, leaving the Reds skipper to fire home clinically from the edge of the box.

Xabi Alonso entered the fray as a second-half substitute but Rafael Benitez's men struggled again early on as Auxerre missed a string of gilt-edged chances to level.

But Daniel Agger was left completely free with a little over 20 minutes remaining to head home from eight yards.

There was still time for England striker Peter Crouch to fluff a simple headed chance of his own as Liverpool held on comfortably.
