From talkSPORT...

Arsenal have no interest in bringing in 33-year-old free agent Nikola Zigic as a replacement for injured striker Olivier Giroud, despite claims from his agent the Gunners have enquired about the former Birmingham man.

Arsene Wenger will instead turn his attention to PSG striker Edinson Cavani, should the north London side progress into the Champions League group stages on Wednesday evening.

Wenger is prepared to clear out a number of fringe players, including German forward Lukas Podolski, in order to fund a £40m plus bid for the Uruguay international, talkSPORT understands.

Cavani had been linked with a move to England earlier in the transfer window when his agent Pierpaolo Triuzi was reported to be exploring a Premier League move for the striker.

The goalscorer is reportedly unhappy playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Paris, with manager Lauren Blanc preferring the maverick Swede as his lone frontman and often pushing Cavani into his unfavoured position on the wing.

It is believed he and his agent are hoping Arsenal will provide an escape route out of France, with PSG prepared to do business if they can bring in a replacement.

Arsenal have made an offer for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos, according to reports.

Arsene Wenger is keen on signing another centre-back after allowing Thomas Vermaelen to leave for Barcelona earlier in the summer, leaving him with only Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Calum Chambers to choose from.

And after missing out on Kostas Manolas to Roma, Wenger has reportedly made a move for his international team-mate, Papastathopoulos.

The former AC Milan and Werder Bremen man is reportedly available and Arsenal have made a £12.5m bid for his signature.

But Dortmund are said to want a far higher figure for the 26-year-old, who can also play right-back.

And Wenger may have to raise his offer if he is to get his man.

would have thrown more at Manolas if you wanted a greek defender..not going to happen specially since you drew them in the champions league now

Reckon Arsenal should try and sign Konstantinos Mitroglou from Fulham

He was banging in goals for Olympiacos in the Champions League then for whatever reason he decided to transfer to Fulham in January... he shot himself in the foot moving to a team that was in a relegation battle that eventually got relegated in the end

Would be a good signing, pretty sure he'd want to out of the Championship

Played 3 games or something and that's because he wasn't match fit

He did f*ck all when he joined Fulham, surprised he hasn't moved to some other team since Fulham got relegated

Would be a handy pick up for Arsenal especially with Giroud out with a long term injury
