Hey there, my first post, I've read the forum for years now but couldn't resist commenting anymore.
I'm 34 and have been a passionate Bulldogs supporter since witnessing the 88 Grand Final. In that time I've enjoyed more glory than any of my mates who support rival clubs. So I'm thankful for this. But being the footballing club and a genuine NRL powerhouse club we are I've come to expect success and unfortunately I don't see it coming for a long time.
On the upside, I said to all my friends Dogs, Souths and Roosters wouldn't play semis this year, somehow someway we did. I agree our attack and coaching is rubbish but I think our roster is also terrible, so making the semis was actually quite a positive.
We undeniably have the worst spine in the comp, even a fully fit Newcastle 1,6,7 and 9 would put us to shame.
So again we didn't do too bad in the scheme of things.
Apologies, for my first post being so negative but here goes..
Here's a list of clubs that seem almost certain to enjoy more success than us in the following five years.
No particular order-
Penrith (no explanation needed, just won the club championship)
Cowboys (Great coach and have players to build a future around)
Titans (Key signings: Peats, Taylor is great, Ryan James puts all our forwards to shame besides Kasiano (maybe), not to mention Hayne may come good. He's definitely a better prospect than our current fullback situation.
Brisbane-Always competitive and have a nursery of Juniors.
Canberra-No better team at the moment when they play at their full potential.Just game breakers everywhere who are still young.
Melbourne-Have the best coach of the modern era.
Sharks-Young, fast exciting team with a knack to snare more mature, experienced campaigners who seem to play out of their skin (sigh, Ennis)
West Tigers- Moses, Brooks, Tedesco.. All three are better than ANY young first grader we have.
Warriors- R.T.S, Shaun Johnson, Isaac Luke and Stephen Kearney coming on as coach.
**Possibly Parramatta- Semi, Norman, French, Scott, Jennings and a good coach. I hate to say it but look like they're playing with more desire and passion than Bulldogs.
So looking at that, it seems almost impossible to make the semi's little own win a comp in the next few years unless something drastically changes and we score some miracle signings.
I think we should pay massive dollars for Gus Gould on a life long contract to pull our club out of the toilet.
