Covid vaccine stalemate between $650k star and Storm ends as club confirms NAS’ return

The Melbourne Storm have confirmed superstar forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona has returned to training following a months-long saga over his vaccination status.

Asofa-Solomona was supposed to return to pre-season training in December but couldn’t because Victoria’s Covid rules ban unvaccinated professional athletes from using team facilities.

The Daniel Andrews government announced last year that all essential workers, including professional athletes, must have had two shots of a Covid-19 vaccine by November 26 in order to work in Victoria.

Asofa-Solomona, 25, was vocal on social media in his stance against mandating the vaccine but his standoff with his club has come to an end.

“Front line nurses speaking out. Ask the question, why are they willing to lose their job to not get the juice? What are they seeing that we don’t see,” Asofa-Solomona posted on his Instagram story in November.

However, the Storm confirmed on Thursday that Asofa-Solomona had returned to training after providing the “necessary and information and certification to comply with the requirements of the Victorian and Queensland governments to allow him to return for training and to play.”

The club did not reveal whether he had received the vaccination or not.

It is great to have Nelson back at the club and back with his teammates,” Storm CEO Justin Rodski said.

It has been a slightly interrupted build up for Nelson but importantly he has been completing his own individual training program over the last few months away from the club.”

He has returned to training in good shape, and we are confident he will be ready for selection ahead of Round 1 of the season.

It comes after teammate Brandon Smith posted an image on social media on Thursday morning of Asofa-Solomona arriving at training.

Asofa-Solomona is contracted until the end of 2023 — on around $650,000 a season.

It looked like Asofa-Solomona was set to part ways with the club but he’s been cleared by authorities to resume training at AAMI Park.

His return is a huge relief for Craig Bellamy’s side, with brothers Jesse and Kenny Bromwich defecting to the Dolphins in 2023.

FMD is he pulling a Novax, has some bullshit exemption?

What about the NSW Government, or isn't he allowed to play any games in NSW?

Fark it, I will attending at least 2 Melbourne games and I have the right to know if all of the players are vaccinated.

What a sell out. It’s amazing how these people back flip on their morals when money is involved.
If you’re committed to something you stand by your convictions. Don’t just change your mind for convenience. I’m morally opposed to harming children in any way, shape or form, therefore I would never harm a child even if I was paid trillions of dollars or it was life and death.
I guess he can also change his stance but that just makes him look like a complete idiot. Typical fuck wit, pretty piss poor imo.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit of the NRL decided to give out an exemption.

Not really up to the NRL, it's State Government jurisdiction under their health acts.

Loving the fake moral outrage.

The vaccine does nothing to stop transmission but the minions still dribble on with the sanctimonious diatribe.

He's probably recovered from C-19 in the last 6 months and is thus exempt from vaccination requirements (per ATAGI guidelines) and in that case would have a higher immunity than the vaccinated.
But the cucks keep on cucking

Novak was declined an exemption for that very reason.

Atagi changed the guidelines to preclude exemption with a prior infection days before Novak had tested + for covid. Presumably if he had Covid before the 15th december 21 than the exemption is still valid.

His visa was cancelled on the merits of Novax disrupting the good order of Australia. Can't have a vocal antivaxxer preaching after he lifts the cup at the AO.

Either way it was a disgusting display of political point scoring and nothing to do with health.

Unless ofcourse ATAGI doesn't TrUsT the ScIeNcE

LOL tail between his legs and come back crawling like a b!tch lol
LOLLLLLLL boy did you get that wrong. I think you'll find it was the other way around. He has $1mil plus offers from rugby in Japan who said that he could play there unvaccinated and NSW Waratahs have also enquired about him since they heard he wasn't going to get the vaccination and wasn't returning to Storm this season. He is out of pocket by returning to play for the Storm @$650k a season.
