I'm so happy we didn't sign Rudolf and he was seeking overs too - not much less than TPJ but 10 times less impact on a game.

For a long while there there were no decent forwards available for 2022 and the bank is still pretty dry but looks like we're getting another pretty decent forward too in Vaughan and on the cheap. Vaughan is better than Rudolf also. I watched Vaughan's highlight package yesterday and he's scored a heap of tries it seems. I never realised how good he is actually.

I still can't believe the Broncos let TPJ go. I'm so looking forward to seeing us having a forward capable of bullying the toughest forwards from other teams. It will be like back when we had Cement, Pay, Hage, Kelly, Tunks, Pritchard, Haumono even.

I guess luck played a big part with TPJ and Vaughan suddenly becoming available and we couldn't have counted on this happening 100% but it's all fallen into place so it's such a relief not having to whinge about poor recruitment anymore. Yes anyone can always do better (would have liked Johnson) but I think we all have to be pretty happy with the players we've managed to get and remember it could be heaps worse - we could be the Tigers.

Yes I'd still like to see us get Brandon Smith but I have hope we could make do with one of BBO, Deitz, Topine, JMK or in future Ryan Gray who is our Australian junior rep hooker.

Vaughan can't do what he did in that highlight package anymore. I'd rate Rudolf higher personally. I think their market values are a good way to base who's better (potential included in Rudolf's). TPJ's massive (I'd rate him higher than Rudolf). I'd personally prefer we played TPJ in the middle and targeted an edge like Tapine.

Vaughn is still a specialist at crash plays under the posts, add Pangai as well.

Agree Vaughan isn't what he was at his peak. But is still a very good forward and better regular performer than Rudolph.

Disagree about TPJ, imagine him out wide with Naden and JAC, lethal.

Rudolf is in a pack with Woods and Tolman so he will looked muted but I agree his asking price was a little high but could have been an alright signing had we got all three

I don’t see the hype around Rudolf. I think yes pretty average. Paul Vaughan is still a better player then he is, imo. He also comes cheap because of the dickhead factor. The only concern about Vaughan is whether he can behave and not do stupid shit.
TPJ is going to be used as a Kikau tyoe, I think. Why play hom
On the kiddie when we can buy a genuine prop?

I think the club’s on the right track. I just hope Vaughan realises he’s on his last chance and doesn’t do anything dumb.

Pretty sure the highlights going around in the media are from 2021... some were his last two games he played. He just hit form again....

After hearing we were interested in Rudolph, I remember watching a Sharks game on tv to see what the hype was about. He didn't impress me that much, just struck me as a big, strong (and slow) forward who was young and enthusiastic. He didn't seem to have much of a motor either. Not saying he can't be a good player in the future, but at this point in time I'm happy we didn't sign him.

Exactly right. Some times you need to sit back and see what becomes available. If we had panicked and signed a Bryce Cartwright or Kurt Capewell for example just because they were available we wouldn’t have been able to sign TPJ

Wouldn't it have sucked if we signed Rudolf for 700-750K then TPJ became available and we never had the funds to sign him ?

Which would have been the case most likely too.

Glad we didn't get Capewell either. Too small, too little impact.

We never would of offered Rudolf that type of money and that's why we didn't get him. We also shouldn't of offered him anything over 600k (which I'm pretty sure is what the Sharks reportedly re-signed him for). If TPJ is playing on the edge we can't compare Rudolf and TPJ tho. We still need a prop. Capewell would of been good too.

Even if we'd paid him 600k we may not have been able to afford TPJ. Definitely not both TPJ and Vaughan

It comes back to what Gus said the other day, no panic buys anymore.

I know it's hindsight but if we didn't sign Flanagan (I doubt we would have if Gus was around) then we might have had more money for Johnson and that could have tipped the decision our way. Next year would have looked much better with Burton and Johnson.

i dont think Johnson is the answer, we need to keep the faith in Averillo and BBO. This year is a development year for them. Averillo has no 5/8 outside him this year, Burton will take alot of pressure of Averillo next year and we will now have 2 try scoring options on either side of the ruck. BBO is the wild card, he is progressing well at 9 at the moment.
