i think its sort of like how oporto is a sydney thing, they find it easier to expand here because people are familiar
Oportos is in QLD, too, isn't it? Could've sworn I've seen one in the Gold Coast a few years back?

yeah its starting to make some moves around australia but its still dominant in sydney

btw if VAI is reading this is perth and doesnt understand what we are talking about, its a portugese style chilli chicken fast food place, keep an eye if they open it in WA its pretty good stuff

Why do they restrict burger places to East/West coast? White Castle just East, Whataburger just West etc... I never understood that.
There's White Castle in the SOuth, and also in the Midwest.

BUt the answer to your question is that there's an inverse relationship between quality and how widespread the burger chain is.

Since the US is fair large country, so regionalized chains spring up all the time, their marketing is geared towards offering a tastier alternative to the Big 3 (BK,McD's and Wendy's). However, it the logistics of operating on the other side of the country are complicated since they often use local suppliers. As local burger chains become established it is generally difficult for other chains from other parts of the country to penetrate their market, as they offer similar quality but lack local goodwill.
